A writer on political theology promoted on an ERLC podcast admitted in his own writings that he rejected conservatism and embraces thinkers like Malcolm X and Marxist readings of history.

A researcher for the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), who is doing work sponsored by Facebook, hosted a podcast promoting Jake Meador. Meador is a writer on political theology who supports Marxist critiques of capitalism.

Meador admitted that he abandoned conservatism and embraces Marxist attacks on the West including Malcom X and post-colonial thinkers.

Meador writes, “I do not think I’m really a conservative anymore. I think Willie Jennings’s historiography is correct, I think Malcolm X was more right than wrong, I think Kwame Nkrumah was more right than wrong and so was Julius Nyerere. And all of that forces me toward a more radical critique of the west than I think many in the national conservative crowd wish to make.”

Kwame Nkrumah is featured on, you guessed it, Marxists.org with works like “Neo-Colonialism, the Last Stage of imperialism.”

What a great person to promote to unsuspecting Southern Baptists!

What is wrong with the ERLC?

Why doesn’t the ERLC promote an actual conservative?

Are there no Southern Baptists to interview fit to promote?

If not, why not someone like Stephen Wolfe who is both orthodox and conservative? Oh wait, that is the problem. The SBC prefers lifelong Democrats like former head Russell Moore or anti-capitalist fanatics like Meador.

The ERLC has a long history of promoting people well outside what Southern Baptists believe. One example from 2018 was the ERLC’s video featuring Catholic philosopher Charles Camosy promoting that Christians abstain from eating meat.

We asked at the time, “Why has the ERLC consulted a Catholic philosopher to tell Southern Baptists what to do with delicious animals?”

It was insane.

It was insane just Like promoting a pro-Marxist reading of history to the unsuspecting Southern Baptists and other evangelicals who listen to ERLC podcasts.

But no leftward drift!

Everything is fine at the ERLC.
