Pay attention to who stood by John MacArthur. Also, pay attention to the religious liberty organizations who ignored this fight.

Pay attention to the people and organizations who stood by John MacArthur and Grace Community Church during its fight against tyranny. Also, note the groups like the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention who were notably silent and absent from this fight.

Leading the fight was the Thomas More Society and lawyers Jenna Ellis and Charles LiMandri. These lawyers won an $800,000 settlement from the State of California and the County of Los Angeles.

As the Thomas More Society said in a release, “This occurred after state and federal courts in California issued permanent injunctions prohibiting the State of California or any of its agencies from ever again imposing discriminatory restrictions on all houses of worship.”

Ellis hit on a theme throughout the fight–Church Is Essential.

“The church is essential. Religious liberty and the Constitution won today against the overbroad, arbitrary, indeterminate, and clearly unconstitutional mandates from Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles County,” attorney Jenna Ellis said. “I am so very proud of Pastor MacArthur’s steadfast leadership and refusal to abdicate headship of Christ’s church to the state. I hope this hard-fought result encourages Californians and all Americans to stand firmly with the protections our Constitution rightly provides, and against tyranny.”

This win was made possible by the courage of MacArthur, his church and the lawyers of the Thomas More Society.

“This was a very hard-fought case every step of the way,” LiMandri said. “Pastor MacArthur and Grace Community Church refused to bow to government tyranny and they finally obtained the excellent result they deserved. Thanks to their courage and perseverance, justice prevailed and the First Amendment was vindicated. No longer can the County of Los Angeles and the State of California treat people of faith like second class citizens. This result is a victory for all Americans who cherish religious liberty.”

Now is a time to take notice of the groups and people who stood up for religious liberty.

As Phil Johnson said, “Lots of organizations & church leaders who self-identify as ‘Evangelical’ remained silent or voiced opposition to John MacArthur & our church while the government was trying to shut us down. NRB supported us from the start. Profound thanks to them.”

This likely explains some of the recent Woke Twitter Mob attacks on NRB (fueled as usual by Russell Moore and his Woke foot soldiers.) The NRB is a force for conservative Christian values and religious liberty. Naturally, that irritates the Woke.

Speaking of Russell Moore, where was the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission during this fight?

As Rod Martin rightly pointed out, the ERLC was silent during this great attack on religious liberty in America.

Martin said, “So John MacArthur was so overwhelmingly in the right that the state is having to pay almost a million dollars. And yet the @ERLC and friends said absolutely not one word in support of them. Nada. So much for our ‘religious liberty’ commission.”

In its defense, the ERLC spent most of its time urging Christians to cooperate with government mandates. Oh, and book reviews from Russell Moore. Lots and lots of book reviews.

So much for our religious liberty commission.

It also, isn’t very much help supporting Ethics either.
