GoVolsxtra.com columnist John Adams uttered one of the best lines ever about an SEC coach during the height of recruiting season: “So what if the Vols finished 5-7 last season. New coach Lane Kiffin has 12-0 confidence and the bankroll to back it up. If he can’t sell you, he can buy you.”

If Lane Kiffin can’t sell you, he can buy you. That’s funny during recruiting season.

Is it accurate? I guess we’ll have to see, but Kiffin could be the most reviled man in the SEC. His name is anathema.

  1. Not trying to fuel the fire, but after he realizes he can’t equally compete with Saban, Richt, Miles, and Meyer, he’ll do whatever it takes to get the “big timers” to play for AU.

It happened with Shug; it happened with Dye; the only reason it DIDN’T happen with Tuberville is simply because his primary competition during the peak of his success was Mike Shula. After realizing he’d made his mark during our years of sorrow, and could no longer compete with the beast known as Nick Saban, he high-tailed it out of there before the fans, whom he deceived during our down years, figured him out (an unsuccessful coach who became a success when his cross-state competition was knocked out of their misery).

You can argue that fact all you want, but facts are facts!

  2. PS: I do however think Lane Kiffin stands a better chance of bringing the NCAA to his door than Chizik does.

  3. Chizik is Auburn’s interim coach. He wont be around long enough to see the NCAA, Becasue he will probably lose 10 games again this year.

  4. You always know opposing fans are getting nervous when they start making unfounded accusations about NCAA violations in recruiting. Cappy, if you’re gonna throw out smut like that, how about citing one instance where the NCAA has even sniffed at a single coach on Auburn’s staff. And you have the stones to question the “journalistic integrity” of Goldberg and Marshall.
