Alabama Coaching Staff Names Eight Players of the Week

Eight Alabama players were recognized by the coaching staff for their outstanding performances following Saturday’s win over West Virginia. Amari Cooper, Jalston Fowler and T.J. Yeldon were the honorees on offense while Jonathan Allen, Landon Collins and Cyrus Jones represented the defense. Adam Griffith and JK Scott made the special teams list.

Cooper caught 12 passes for 130 yards and was just one reception away from matching the school record for catches in a game. Yeldon led all rushers with 126 yards on 23 carries and scored twice. Fowler helped clear the way for both Yeldon and Derrick Henry to run for over 100 yards and also caught one pass for seven yards.

Allen led the defense in production points and finished with five tackles (two for loss) and a sack. Collins was next on the defense in terms of production points and totaled eight tackles while also playing on special teams. Jones tallied seven tackles from his cornerback post and also broke up a pass.

A pair of new starters at kicker and punter made the coaching staff player of the week list in their debut. Griffith was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, connecting from 47, 41, 27 and 45 yards. He averaged 64.7 yards on kickoffs and had three touchbacks on seven attempts. Scott had just two punts, but averaged 50.5 yards and nailed a 62-yarder on his first-ever kick that pinned West Virginia back inside the five-yard line.
