G oing to the game? Have fun in the Atlanta congestion. It just seems to get worse. Here’s some help from UA on navigating to the Georgia Dome.

(UA)TUSCALOOSA — University of Alabama football fans traveling to the 2008 season opener against Clemson on Saturday, Aug. 30, should be prepared to head to the Georgia Dome a little earlier.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has scheduled a major interstate construction project where I-85 south meets I-75 south during the Labor Day weekend. The construction will cause severe delays in Midtown and Downtown Atlanta, and greatly affect fans attending the 2008 Chick-fil-A College Kickoff between Alabama and Clemson, as well as all of the pre-game festivities in Centennial Olympic Park.

Fans who wish to avoid delays traveling into Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff game between Alabama and Clemson and surrounding activities are urged to follow these guidelines for attending all events on Aug. 30.

1. ARRIVE EARLY: Allow plenty of time and plan to arrive early to take advantage of the various pre-game activities in Centennial Olympic Park, including ESPN’s live broadcast of College Gameday at 10 a.m. and the College Kickoff FanZone presented by Coca-Cola Zero from noon – 6 p.m. Admission to both events is free. A full list of the day’s activities can be found at www.chickfilabowl.com.

2. TAKE MARTA INTO DOWNTOWN: Motorists traveling into the city for game day events are strongly urged to park at an outlying MARTA station and ride the train into downtown to avoid the construction zone. For only $1.75 each way, customers can take the East/West rail line to the Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center Station (W1) and walk directly into the Georgia Dome and to Centennial Olympic Park. Customers taking the North/South rail line will need to transfer to the West Line at Five Points rail station and travel one stop to the Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center Station. For more information please visit www.itsmarta.com.

3. USE ALTERNATE ROUTES: Alabama fans are asked to follow the alternate routes that have been set aside by the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff Game committee. A map may be found on www.RollTide.com or at www.Chick-fil-ABowl.com. Fans are encouraged to allow for extra travel time during this busy weekend in Atlanta .

Just as a sidenote from someone who lives north of Atlanta…they’re also having some sort of nerd convention at the Congress Center called DragonCon all weekend. I think it’s where everyone dresses up as their favorite Star Wars character. Keep that in mind as you travel to and from the dome. Safe travels bammers, and hope you have a great weekend in Atlanta!

That is actually where I’ll be instead of the football game. I like to dress up as Chewbacca or C3P0!

I guess he is out of luck then. Who is Kirk? Who is Picard?

  8. Shane is a BLOGGER August 28, 2008 at 8:46 am #

    Mike Slive is Kirk.
Paul is Picard, not for his leadership, just for the top of the head.
