I try not to nitpick other writers. If it weren’t for spellcheck I’d be in all kinds of trouble with the grammar police (sometimes even with it I’m a habitual offender.) I give a large benefit of the doubt to anyone. But this item from the Sports Network just required correction.
According to the Sports Network 1,028-word preview of the Alabama-Clemson game, Alabama’s defense still has a few big questions heading into the season. Sounds good so far, but check this out:
One of the major questions surrounding the defense heading into this season is whether or not linebacker Ezekial Knight will be able to play. The starting linebacker is dealing with a heart ailment, and it remains to be seen if he is given the green light to participate on the field. Sophomore Rolando McClain is back in the middle after being force-fed as a freshman. Up front, junior defensive end Brandon Deadrick (22 tackles, one sack) and junior tackle Lorenzo Washington (36 tackles, three sacks) will be counted on to get the job done.
I think we have known the answer on Ezekial Knight for well over a month. Technically, Washington has been shuffled to end and no longer is a tackle. Fans are expecting to see Terrance Cody and Josh Chapman filling the important role at the defensive tackle (nose guard) position.
Those are somewhat important details in a story. And the Sports Network is a massive organization. It is described as the “largest and oldest privately held sports information service in North America.” You can find their content on major websites—last season their stories were even featured on al.com.
Here’s my helpful advice—next time don’t just copy and paste details from a story you wrote during the spring.
There is a significant difference between professional writers and amateur writers – you provided us with substantial evidence that the slackers behind the sports network are amateurs operating a supposedly credible source.
It’s not a matter of professionalism, it’s a matter of sheer laziness and the writers over at “The Sports Network” suffers severely from it.
“It is described as the “largest and oldest privately held sports information service in North America.â€
And evidently its information is among the “oldest” too.
