Nick Saban continues to adjust his coaching staff. According to the Alexander City Outlook, Benjamin Russell High School football coach Willie Carl Martin resigned to take a job at UA.   An announcement from Saban could come as early as tomorrow, The Outlook reported.
Coonass threatens formal complaint
Warren A. Perrin, the guy who was demolished during an interview on the Paul Finebaum Radio Network, threatened a formal FCC complaint if Paul Finebaum continues to use the term “Coonass” on the radio show. In a formal letter dated Feb. 28 and available on the Paul Finebaum website, Perrin demands the radio host cease [...]
UAB’s taxpayer swindle
The promotion of a 40,000-seat domed stadium in Birmingham is the latest boondoggle from UAB’s inept athletic department. Make no mistake, this plan is all about getting UAB a new stadium. Unable to fill Legion Field with crowds approaching an AHSAA Super Six championship, UAB and its politician accomplices believe it is time for a [...]
UA’s silence is deafening; other Alabama news
Our offer remains open to any UA official who would be willing to defend its lawsuit against Daniel Moore. You can send us a statement via email to: info@capstonereport.com. We’ll post the entire statement unedited. You can read about the University’s foolish lawsuit here. Ronald Steele will likely miss the Ole Miss game. That’s not [...]
Dr. Witt, end this lawsuit
Time for UA to cease persecution of Daniel Moore note: The University was emailed several times last week in an effort to gain comment about the lawsuit. Emails to Dr. Witt, Mal Moore, Finus Gaston, Doug Walker and other UA officials went unanswered. The offer remains open for any University official to share their perspective [...]
SWEPT BY AUBURN
What was to be a special Alabama basketball season came tumbling down with an 86-77 loss to Auburn today in Tuscaloosa. The victory was the latest casualty in a basketball season spinning out of control. What began with a pre-season Top-10 ranking and visions of the Final Four is an unmitigated disaster. Coach Mark Gottfried’s [...]
Alabama-Auburn
I could compile a list of links about the basketball game, but is there really any need? Everyone knows this game is important because the NCAA tournament is near and a loss hurts Alabama’s chances. Will Gottfried shuffle the lineup? Will Steele and Gee sit on the bench? Will Tubbs provide some defensive intensity? Meh. [...]
Recruiting special teams & BBall lineup shuffle
One of our regular discussion board contributors directed me to this interesting news: Alabama has already extended an offer to a kicker for 2008. A kicker! Wow! It seems like forever since Alabama handed out a scholarship to a true Division 1 kicking prospect. (I know it hasn’t been forever, but it just seems like it with our poor special teams [...]
Pathetic: Alabama is consistently inconsistent
Pathetic. That’s about all you can say for Alabama’s performance in Knoxville Wednesday evening. The Crimson Tide lost to the Volunteers 69-66 in an overtime battle, but the game wasn’t fun to watch. Tennessee couldn’t shoot the ball (7-37 or 18-percent from 3-pt. range) and still Alabama couldn’t find a way to win on the [...]
Saban buys a house, golf team wins again
For everyone wondering about Nick Saban’s housing situation, Nick Saban purchased a $2.9 million home, the Birmingham News reported today. For those interested in learning more about the Alabama coaching staff, Roll Bama Roll has launched an analysis of each coach. Memphis Tider provides lots of photographs of his weekend visit to Tuscaloosa. He gives [...]
Saban’s staff & title discussion
Saban’s staff has been a topic of conversation on the Paul Finebaum network today. The quality of the staff is in question. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, talent is less important than obedience. I’ll take a subordinate who follows orders over the brightest, most talented worker who is out to further [...]
Behind the scenes & Applewhite expected to call plays
According to the The Birmingham News, an ABC production crew will follow Mark Gottfried and the Alabama Crimson Tide around for a week. This behind the scenes documentary should give fans an inside look at how the basketball program functions, and how Gottfried coaches. The film crew will be following the team for one week, [...]

Saban & Staff working hard in recruiting
As most attention has shifted from football to basketball, Nick Saban and his Alabama staff have been hard at work on recruiting—next year’s class. According to Andew Bone, writing for the Tuscaloosa News, Alabama has offered several top prospects including one of the nation’s top offensive linemen, Josh Jenkins. This offer coincides with several other [...]
The Truth About Alabama’s Championships
Trifles light as air Are to the jealous confirmations strong As proofs of holy writ. —William Shakespeare, Othello Some college football fans take shots at Alabama for claiming 12 national championships. But how many national titles does Alabama have? According to the NCAA, 17. Alabama only claims 12. Why would Alabama claim fewer titles than [...]
The truth about recruiting
The Huntsville Times has a great column today quoting a recruiting expert saying some blunt things about the practice of recruiting. Here’s a sample: Instead, he says stuff like: “I can promise you, college coaches don’t worry about recruiting rankings. If they’re worried about that, they’re in trouble.” And: “I don’t like recruiting rankings, personally. [...]
Florida defeats Alabama
Another day, but it is the same story: Alabama defeated. Honestly, I’m sick of reading headlines this basketball season that detail Alabama’s problems. I’m sick of walking away from watching the game with a sense of disappointment. I’m tired of excuses. I don’t want to hear the team we lost to was the #1 team [...]
Two-A-Days: football, drama, cheerleaders
I probably put the list in the wrong order in the headline. The show isn’t football, drama and then cheerleaders. By far, the cheerleaders steal the show; all the best scenes involve Brittany. I still don’t know what her boyfriend’s name is, but I can tell you he isn’t dumb. In what was the highest [...]
Saban & assistant coaches
Ray Melick explores the relationship between Nick Saban and his assistant coaches in a column in Tuesday’s Birmingham News. Melick makes a few good points: “The culture of Crimson Tide football would have you believe there is nothing more important than Alabama football, which is apparently the same attitude Saban has when it comes to [...]
UA correct in efforts to improve the Strip
Agree or disagree? Vote in our poll and talk about it in our discussion board or email us at info@capstonereport.com. We’ll compile the best emails and board posts into an update later in the week (news cycle allowing.) Dr. Robert E. Witt’s op-ed in Sunday’s Tuscaloosa News was the best explanation to date on how UA [...]
Saturday previews
Alabama faces Ole Miss today in a match which will determine first place in the SEC West. That’s hard to believe. But it is true. Alabama stands at 18-5, but to make a serious run at the NCAA tournament, it must win today. And to do that, the team must overcome its weak defensive play. [...]
Hoax reflections & the future of newspapers
On Monday morning we reported a column in the Opelousas Daily World contained inaccurate quotes attributed to Nick Saban. The quotes were cited as being from a Birmingham News story; however, the quotes were in fact from an email hoax passed around by fans of Alabama rivals. The quotes made Saban look bad and were [...]
Signing Day recap: Saban exceeds expectations
Follow discussion of signing day in our official National Signing Day thread. About three weeks ago, I said Saban had a shot at a Top Ten class, but realistically a top 12 or top 15 class would be in his grasp. On National Signing Day, Saban exceeded expectations. He landed a Top Ten class, according [...]

SPORTS EDITOR TERMINATED OVER FAKE QUOTES
A call to the switchboard of the Daily World confirmed that Tom Dodge was no longer with the Daily World.  No official word from the Opelousas Daily World online in Wednesday’s edition; however, Dodge’s name was no longer on the website’s staff directory. Paul Finebaum read an email from Dodge Tuesday afternoon on his radio program. In the email Dodge confirmed [...]
Media Hoax Day 2: Apology released, but questions linger
When I started this blog/website, I didn’t intend on creating an Alabama version of Brill’s Content. But media incompetence, recklessness and spitefulness over the last 60-plus days has created fodder for commentary after commentary–all on media errors. I am more convinced than ever of the need for a media watchdog in the sports world. Just [...]

We apologize for its inclusion in the newspaper. NO statement from newspaper on status of the sports editor who wrote the column. MORE: Paul Finebaum read an [...]

Recruiting jitters
Sit back, take a deep breath and go watch the Super Bowl or something. That’s better than the gnashing of teeth some Alabama fans are engaged in during the closing hours of Recruiting 2007. Sure reports from recruiting services saying Kerry Murphy is going to Miami and Sidell Corley is going to LSU are disappointing [...]
Saban frenzy, recruiting nears end & basketball preview
SABAN FRENZY: The Saban media frenzy continued over the weekend with commentary from Paul Finebaum, a story in the Birmingham News, and a very balanced analysis from the Detroit Free Press. The Free Press puts some blame on Saban for using an insulting term, but goes after the Miami Herald reporter: “…but his indiscretion could [...]

Auburn’s lunatic fringe displays its hypocrisy
The Never To Yield Foundation is right—all Alabama fans are rude and evil. We are sinners. It is too bad [...]
