According to the The Birmingham News, an ABC production crew will follow Mark Gottfried and the Alabama Crimson Tide around for a week. This behind the scenes documentary should give fans an inside look at how the basketball program functions, and how Gottfried coaches. The film crew will be following the team for one week, according to the report.

Let’s hope it doesn’t prove a distraction during this important stretch run.

For those that missed it, Saban completed his coaching staff. He hired Curt Cignetti. Two interesting points contained in this Cecil Hurt story explain the coaching staff philosophy and play calling.

“The two things we are concerned about [with a staff] are, first, teaching and player development and then, the ability to recruit and attract top-notch talent.” Saban was quoted as saying in the Tuscaloosa News.

Applewhite expected to call plays
Saban, asked if Applewhite would call the offensive plays in 2007, indicated that his usual staff structure was for the offensive coordinator to call plays.

Unless something is “unusual” it looks like Applewhite would call plays this season. We’ll no doubt learn more as practice unfolds in the coming weeks.
