HUMILIATED: Adam Greenway will not work at IMB

International Mission Board (IMB) trustees reportedly pushed back after learning that ousted Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) President Adam Greenway would be given a job training missionaries for IMB.

Whether it was Adam Greenway’s financial incompetence, inhuman treatment of SWBTS faculty members, or mishandling sexual abuse allegations, the former SWBTS President will not be working for the IMB.

Greenway announced on social media that he would not be headed toward IMB.

Greenway said, “Carla and I are grateful for the many expressions of care and concern that have come our way since our transition from service at @SWBTS was first announced. While we initially thought our path would take us to the @IMB_SBC, We have not been able to find the Lord’s peace to move forward in that direction. We covet your prayers for ourselves and for our children as we seek the Lord’s direction regarding His next vocational assignment for us.”

In other words, IMB trustees freaked out at the thought of Greenway working for IMB.

Speculation is already in high gear.

Sex Abuse survivor advocate and SWBTS grad David Bumgardner said, “I heard through the grapevine that @DrPaulChitwood became aware of Greenway’s abyssal handling of abuse. Another egg in the face of the SBC powerbrokers. The announcement for transition to @IMB_SBC didn’t even last a week.”

This very well could be the case. No entity trustee would feel comfortable employing someone who faces the potential of being involved in a long-running federal probe of mishandling sex abuse cases at SWBTS.

Also, Greenway made many enemies in the way he treated many longtime SWBTS faculty members. Greenway fired or forced out at least 45 faculty members including the beloved Dr. David Allen. The mishandling of the David Allen firing played a pivotal role in Greenway’s ouster as a prominent Texas megapastor and others lobbied SWBTS trustees to fire Greenway.

Whatever the case, IMB trustees finally acted like trustees—if reports are to be believed—and stopped the SBC Good Old Boy Network from throwing a lifeline to one of its worst members.
