David French sides with Democrats again. Picks lifelong Democrat Russell Moore over conservative Southern Baptists.

David French is on Russell Moore’s side of the Southern Baptist Convention’s war. David French also opposes state legislatures banning Critical Race Theory (CRT). Reminder: Al Mohler brought David French to Southern Baptist Theological Seminary to explain CRT.

So, when David French writes an article on the Southern Baptist Convention, he naturally takes Russell Moore’s side in attacking Southern Baptists.

And he blames the Conservative Baptist Network and Todd Starnes for ‘warping’ the debate.

French writes, “A group called the ‘Conservative Baptist Network’ is expected to make a show of force at the convention. The right-wing radio host Todd Starnes has praised its efforts to ‘to save the nation’s largest denomination from a radical group of Never Trumpers and woke critical race theorists.’ But to frame the dispute as one between true ‘conservatives’ versus ‘liberals’ or the ‘woke’ is to warp the debate. The battle isn’t left versus right, and there are precious few true critical race theorists in Baptist ranks. Instead, the battle is over much more elemental concerns, including truth, transparency, corruption, and—ultimately—character.”

Right-wing? Is that supposed to be a smear?

Is French trying to imply that Starnes is radical? That Starnes is far right?

Starnes backed Rick Perry in the 2016 GOP Presidential race. That hardly seems far right.

And how many Critical Race Theory proponents are in the SBC? Well, even a “precious few” would be too many. Especially when those “precious few” are teaching in our seminaries.

David French aligned himself against conservatives in the last two Presidential elections.

Why are we shocked when he aligns himself with lifelong Democrat Russell Moore and lady preacher Beth Moore instead of Conservative Southern Baptists?

The Origins of War in the Southern Baptist Convention: Russell Moore

This entire fight in the Southern Baptist Convention was started by Russell Moore. Dr. Moore smeared Southern Baptists in 2016. Now, he smugly accuses men like Ronnie Floyd and Mike Stone of trying to harm sex abuse victims.

Todd Starnes said it better than anyone:

“Ted Cruz is leading in the ‘Jerry Falwell’ wing [of evangelicalism], Marco Rubio is leading the ‘Billy Graham’ wing and Trump is leading the ‘Jimmy Swaggart’ wing.” – Russell Moore, ERLC quoted in Roll Call, 2016.

The top ethicist in the Southern Baptist Convention compared evangelicals who supported Donald Trump to a television evangelist who cheated on his wife with a prostitute.

In essence, he compared your sweet Southern Baptist grandmother who wants to Make America Great Again to a fornicator.

Over the past four years a good many elected and appointed Southern Baptist leaders and preachers made Trump supporters feel as if we had committed a heinous sin against God by supporting a pro-life defender of religious liberty.

We have endured ridicule and scorn from a small, but powerful  group of leaders who used very political tool in their arsenal while preaching from the pulpits that their opposition to Trump had nothing to do with politics.

We have watched as denominational leaders have been given million-dollar golden parachutes while laying off thousands of LifeWay staffers and selling off beloved institutions like Ridgecrest.

We have been smeared because of the color of our skin, told from pulpits that we must repent for the sins of our forefathers. That we must acknowledge our white privilege. That we must judge people by the color of their skin.

Southern Baptists are weary of these unfounded and unfair attacks. And on Tuesday — I believe messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting are going to say, ‘enough.’

This part of Starnes comments deserves special highlighting. Starnes said, “The top ethicist in the Southern Baptist Convention compared evangelicals who supported Donald Trump to a television evangelist who cheated on his wife with a prostitute. One thing we must consider beyond Russell Moore—is who brought Russell Moore into prominence?

That has one answer: Al Mohler is the man responsible for Russell Moore.

Conclusion: In the battle of pundits, Todd Starnes is the actual conservative

Compare the rhetoric of the two pundits.

David French sides with secular elites on issues of Critical Race Theory. David French takes the side of lifelong Democrat Russell Moore.

Todd Starnes defends the rank-and-file Southern Baptist sitting in the pew. Todd Starnes rebukes Russell Moore for comparing Christian voters to a disgraced fornicating preacher. Todd Starnes is against Critical Race Theory in our schools and our churches.

David French was wrong about Donald Trump. David French is wrong about CRT. David French is wrong about Russell Moore.

Christians and especially Southern Baptists should ignore him.
