SBC Voices falls all over itself to out Woke the Woke. Today SBC Voices called for replacing the statute of a racist (and yes, the evidence shows the guy was a racist) with a statute of Civil Rights icon John Lewis. The problem? Lewis was a great Civil Rights hero in his youth but his later years are marred by intense devotion to the Democratic Party’s sacrament—Abortion. Lewis held a 100% rating from NARAL, the pro-choice organization.

The push to replace a statute of Alexander Hamilton Stephens, Vice President of the Confederacy, is based on Stephens’s white supremacist political statements. There is good evidence on this.

Alan Dowd writing at Providence provides a quote proving this. According to Dowd Stephens held the US, “rested upon the assumption of the equality of the races,” while his government was “founded upon exactly the opposite ideas: its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery is his natural… condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based on this…truth.”

So, replacing the statute in the Rotunda is worth considering.

However, Lewis is the exact opposite of who should be honored.

The great moral deficiency in America during the 18th and 19th century was treating a group of people like property. With the shedding of blood, America changed that.

The great moral failure of 20th and 21st century America is treating babies as disposable inconveniences that can be killed at whim.

Lewis was on the wrong side of the 20th and 21st century struggles.

What does it say about the influence of Woke thinking that SBC Voices would push this type of plan?

It shows the wicked teachings of this world have infected the church. It shows that virtue signaling to the new Woke Tyrants is more important than condemning evil. And make no mistake about it—being a pro-abortion politician is evil.

It is more evil than slavery. Slavery turned people into property—that is bad. Abortion murders innocent children—and America’s wickedness is measured in the millions since Roe v. Wade.

Let us not honor pro-abortion politicians with statues. Let us redouble our efforts against abortion. Let us condemn such politicians—even politicians who began a good run but failed to finish in the manner they started.
