This will trigger the Russell Moore, Never Trump wing of the Southern Baptist Convention.

In a wholehearted endorsement of the ministry of Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, legendary Baptist theologian Dr. Paige Patterson blasted Woke, Social Justice Warrior critics of Jeffress and President Donald Trump.

Patterson wrote, that “spirit of the prophet dwells in you because you follow God’s Word even if no one else sees it.”

Patterson extolled Jeffress’ devotion to the lost through his Gospel preaching and writings.

Patterson continued, “While you are no more perfect than any of the human family, the mantle of Elijah has fallen around your shoulders. Amid the cacophony of thousands of non-biblical voices, many of us are grateful to you this day. Let Jeffress be heard!”

Patterson wrote in defense of Trump and Jeffress’ support for the Republican president:

“Well, why do you not ‘trump’ Trump?  His style is not what anyone is used to, and his past is apparently not what a believer is looking for.  Well, yes, I admit that the President has done more for the pre-born in their mothers’ wombs than any other president; the unemployment rate is the lowest anyone can remember; the economy is booming; he has kept his word about what he promised, and overwhelmingly minorities in America have a new start.  He has openly asked for God’s intervention in the life of America, but he is just ’er…well, so different, and surely that must be sinful.  Come on Dr. Jeffress!  Can’t you understand that this is all about style?  Thousands do not care what the president does.  It is how he does it that makes feathers stand on end.”

No doubt, this endorsement of both Republican President Donald Trump and First Baptist Church of Dallas pastor Dr. Robert Jeffress will trigger the Russell Moore faction of the Southern Baptist Convention.

So, well done to both Dr. Patterson and Dr. Jeffress.

  1. Meanwhile on the north side of Dallas, Jack Graham preached a sermon back in late April called “Christianity and Socialism” which no doubt triggered the Moore faction.

In reality the best thing that would shake up the SBC is for Drs. Jeffress and Graham to jointly announce plans to withdraw unless major changes are made at the top. Eastside Baptist of Podunkville can withdraw but nobody will care.

  2. Has Russel Moore ever publicly apologized to Trump? or apologized to misleading evangelicals to vote against Trump? It is NOW obvious to anyone that Russell Moore mislead us!

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (Jas. 5:16 NKJ)
