Alabama defeats Tennessee

Alabama crushed Tennessee to improve to seven straight wins in the rivalry. Alabama won 45-10, and it wasn’t even that close as the halftime score was 35-0.

Even Nick Saban was happy in his post-game press conference.

“I’m really happy, our players are really happy, and I hope our fans are really happy,” Alabama Coach Nick Saban said. “I certainly appreciated our fans today. They stayed for the game and did a great job of supporting our team. It was a great atmosphere for our players to play in. This is a 110 year old rivalry that means a lot to a lot of people in the state of Alabama. I’m very proud of the job that the players and the coached did. We played especially well in the first half.”

GENERAL NOTES
GAME CAPTAINS: Alabama’s captains for today’s game against Tennessee were AJ McCarron, C.J. Mosley and Ed Stinson. The Crimson Tide won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff.

TENNESSEE SERIES: Alabama leads the series with Tennessee, 50-38-7, in a series that dates back to the 1901 season. The Crimson Tide has won the last seven meetings, which is the first seven-game winning streak in the series since 1986-92.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

FIRST HALF SHUTOUT: For the ninth time in its last 12 games, Alabama has held its opponent scoreless in the first half. In addition to today’s game, the Crimson Tide shut out Arkansas (Oct. 19, 2013), Kentucky (Oct. 12, 2013), Georgia State (Oct. 5, 2013), Ole Miss (Sept. 28, 2013), Colorado State (Sept. 21, 2013), Notre Dame (Jan. 7, 2013), Auburn (Nov. 24, 2012) and Western Carolina (Nov. 17, 2012) during the first two quarters of play.

COLLINS’ PICK SIX IS FIFTH LONGEST IN SCHOOL HISTORY: Landon Collins’ 89-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter against Tennessee was the fifth longest in program history. It was also the first interception and first touchdown for the sophomore as well as the 34th non-offensive touchdown in the Saban era.

HARD TO FIND END ZONE AGAINST ALABAMA: Since the start of the 2009 season, no defense has allowed fewer touchdowns than the Crimson Tide. Alabama’s defense, led by coordinator Kirby Smart and head coach Nick Saban, has surrendered just 78 touchdowns over the last 62 games. Entering today’s game, the Football Bowl Subdivision average during that span was 191 touchdowns allowed.

10 POINTS OR FEWER: Under head coach Nick Saban, the Crimson Tide has held opponents to 10 points or fewer 47 times since the start of the 2007 season. Alabama has held 7-of-8 opponents to 10 points or less in 2013 after limiting seven of its opponents to 10 points or less in 2012, four of which were shutouts. The Tide was successful in holding opponents in the 0-10 point range in nine games in 2011 and eight times in 2010. Alabama limited opponents to that range seven times in both 2008 and 2009, and in 2007 posted two games in which it held opponents to 0-10 points. Alabama has shut out the opposition 12 times during the Saban era.

  1. Kevin Norwood.

    Kevin freaking Norwood.

I mean, come on y’all. Wow, that was a fun Saturday in October. Smoked my cigar ’til it burned my knuckle. Roll Tide.

  2. Kevin Norwood is a gamer. Automatic. The dude is unstoppable (because you can’t stop 8 WR’s at once).

But he’s followed closely by Deandrew White. Another gamer.

  3. I’ve been calling Norwood ‘Mr Clutch’ since the 2011 BCSNCG. Has he ever dropped a pass? I can’t remember it. As for Bama – Look out world, the RED TEAM is coming! Bwaa Haww Haww! RTR!

    1. Talk about stupid! What was Jones and his players thinking! It’s one thing for fans to bad mouth each others teams, but for one team to disrespect another is asking for trouble! Maybe the ‘orange team’ learned a lesson here, don’t say things to fire up your opposing team. RTR!

  4. I kept up with that on Volquest all week. It was actually said as a complement. I really had no idea the team took it as an insult. I was totally shocked when AJ gave his feelings on it. But whatever – anything that helps – helps. Bwaa Haww Haww! RTR!

    1. I’m not sure I understand how that’s a compliment, but UT didn’t play complimentary football on the field. It was brutal, sometimes outright mean, even dangerous. It’s no secret who they were playing, so I think using any name other than Alabama isn’t meant to be respectful, particularly from a rival, you know, the one that’s beaten Alabama more than any other team in history.

Regardless, AJ McCarron ended up with the best QBR in the nation this weekend in the game against Tennessee. Whether or not Tennessee is great this year may be incidental because Alabama was once again outstanding. Amari Cooper looks like he’s still missing that 7th gear, but other than that Alabama was nearly flawless.

    1. Why don’t you go suck on Worley’s thumb? If you as good a job as you did on my knob, he might be able to play Saturday. Bwaa Haww Haww! RTR!

    1. Can’t spell “quaRTeRback” without “RTR,” either.

What a bReakThRough exploRaToRy chaRachTeRization of excRaToRy feRTilizeR from the headquaRTeRs of fRaTeRnizing maRTyRs.

      Roll Tide Roll
