The Real 12th Man

Finally, we can move on. Johnny Manziel met with the NCAA for six hours on Sunday, we learned today, and informed the governing organization of college athletics that he never took money for signing autographs.

Whew! Thankfully that whole episode is now behind us so we can focus on some football. All while the organization in Indianapolis called the NCAA rolls over and takes another beating from a member organization.

It’s clear that a young man would sign hundreds…thousands…of autographs for known brokers for nothing in return. It’s clear that these brokers, six so far, would come forward and admit to paying Manziel because they’re all lying.

It’s clear that whatever modicum of authority, integrity and dignity the NCAA had left has been shot to hell.

And it’s clear that Texas A&M’s Honor Code amounts to about as much as the Charmin Ultra Soft I’ll be helping myself to once I publish this article.

Lie, lie, deny, deny..and deflect. It’s the Auburn Aggie way.

  1. GOOD STORY BUT WRONG ON ONE POINT THESE KIDS DID SIGN AUTOGRAPHS FOR FREE – REASONS – IT’S FLATTERING IT’S THE WAY THINGS WERE BEING DONE IT’S BRANDING URSELF LONG TERM MARKETING….AJ JFF CLOWNEY BRIDGEWATER ETC ALL DID FREE AUTOS …BUT IN JFF’S CASE UNCLE NATE SAID NUFF OF THIS SHAT – NO MORE FREEBIES AND GOIN FORWARD JFF WAS PAID FOR AUTOS STRAIGHT CASH HOMEY BUT NOT A CERTIFIED SIG OR THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN “MO” MONEY AND JFF BOUGHT HIM SOME NICE RIMS….NOT A SNOWBALL’S CHANCE 2+2=5 NOT A SNOWBALL’S CHANCE UNCLE NATE/JFF DID NOT GET PAID

  2. Oh well, he’d rather be playing for Texas anyway, and now we’ll get a chance to knock his jockstrap up around his ears. RTR!

  3. I think everyone should try signing their name 2000 times.

No. Wait. Try 100. Just 100. You can do that, right? Go on and try. Humor me. Give it a shot, right now, on a spare peice of paper with the first pen you find.

It’s boring and it’s hard work.

There’s no rational explanation for why a 20-year-old rich playboy superstar Heisman-winning quarterback freshman on vacation in Miami would sign up to 4,000 autographs (and hand-number thousands of them) for a total stranger…for free. It just doesn’t make any sense.

But don’t stop there—–now travel (on your own dime, by the way, because if they paid for his plane ticket or gas money it’s just as impermissable as selling autographs) to meet other strangers and sign free autographs for them to sell. At least in Miami he had a reason to be there in the first place——-the other cities it sounds like he traveled to just to sign autographs (and make money).

OK, so maybe that’s speculation, right? Maybe it’s the 20-year-old defiant rich kid who is telling the truth and it’s the industry pros with businesses that rely on their credibility who are now all lying, all of them, and for no apparent reason than to try to hurt the guy they were making money from and not having to split a penny of the profits with?

I’m just glad we don’t have this problem at the Capstone. TAMU is all-in. Good luck with that. Roll Tide.

  4. Ever wonder why your pos site does not get the number of visits as other sports blogs/sites? I would say the #1 reason is the puke that ITK continues to post. He thinks because he throws a cute cartoon in from time to time that it will compensate for his lack of imagination and writing skills. Oh how wrong is he!? This is not based on my opinion alone. This is based on the overall number of views / visitors that this site gets. Lets compare capstonereport.com to another similar site. Take AUFamily.com. A site that has not been around near as long as capstonereport.com According to Alexa.com AUFamily.com ranks nearly 20,000 spots higher in rankings than capstonereport.com in the U.S. , and over 30,000 spots higher world wide! What is even more staggering is the facebook likes. Capstonereport.com has a total of 152 fan likes. Care to guess how many likes AUFamily.com has on facebook? AUFamily.Com has a total of 61,100 fan likes. A difference of almost 61,100! Go look at the messages/responses on AUFamily.Com. 99% of the posts are about Auburn. The school that the site took its name after. Where as here at Capstonereport.com less than 10% of stories/messages are not based on or mentions other schools/teams. Now run along ITK and make another cute cartoon….your 7 readers this week just love those things.

    1. LOL @ anyone who uses Alexa as a benchmark. You can game Alexa very easily.

For the professionals in the business, Alexa is a somewhat useful tool, but most of us look to Quantcast and similar for reliable traffic data.

Thanks SECFan for taking the time to improve my revenue stream by wasting everyone’s time by telling us how we should run our business.

I’ve been around since 2006 and am very happy with the overall health, revenue and growth of the site.

Are there ways to do better? of course. But, we’ll keep doing what we do to keep people like you coming back for more.

So thanks again, and we promise not to change so you’ll keep getting the truth about the SEC that you can’t find on fan sites—particularly cult sites.

    2. “Go look at the messages/responses on AUFamily.Com”

No, I don’t think we’ll be doing that.

      I love the cartoon.

I love the Alabama Crimson Tide.

      I love being a champion.

I love not ever feeling compelled to go to AUFamily.com just to make sure they write about what someone thinks they should (?).

And I love Capstone Report. Holy cow, do I ever love Alabama. ROLL TIDE.

  5. Glad I could throw a needy person a quarter or two. I always try to help out. Well since there are ” other ” ways to measure views/visits , lets here what your results are……waiting. Thats right . They read pretty much the same thing. You are near the bottom in their rankings also. And look you are getting responses by the same 3 or 4 people …..on every story……every day…..IMPRESSIVE! You would think with the massive 152 person following on facebook you would have a few others chime in from time to time. lmao! ITK Employee of the year!

    1. Near the bottom in quantcast rankings? LOL You are an idiot. Demographics on this site are amazing with the typical reader having not only a college degree but a career earning well above average in Alabama. Over 11 percent of readers here earn over $150k per year. 17 percent of readers earn in the 100-150k range. 33 percent earn 50-100k per year.

Compared to average Internet sites, those demographics are good. Very good. As for traffic rank, we have real stats that show real value. That is why advertisers spend their dollars here.

  6. oh and as far as ” cult sites” Im sure your sponsors could not care less if your readers were members of a cult or just typical joes. Im sure your sponsors appreciate you and your ” writers” classifying a group of loyal readers as ” cult”. Keep working that capstone magic buddy

  7. oh and as far as ” cult sites” Im sure your sponsors could not care less if your readers were members of a cult or just typical joes. Im sure your sponsors appreciate you and your ” writers” classifying a group of loyal readers as ” cult”. Keep working that capstone magic buddy

    1. Cult was in reference to your Auburn site. The lunatic fringe of the state of Alabama exists on Auburn sites.

    2. @SECFan I love the irony of complaining about a site for fans of a team you hate writing too much about other teams, but instead you come to write about, well, anything unrelated? It’s not even related to the topic of the story.

      Again.

Nevermind the irony of the name “SECFan” being so upset at an SEC fan site writing about other SEC teams. A fan of the SEC…except the SEC champions?

I thought more Auburn fans would have opinions on Manziel and TAMU instead of just blind hate for Alabama. Am I expecting too much?

      It appears so, yes.

I think it’s more “cult-like” to come to a rival’s site not to read or comment but just to hate for the sake of hating. It’s kinda scary when you think about it. Yikes.

One more time, I’m sorry about your loss. Roll Tide.

PS——everyone is looking forward to the Georgia/Clemson game. The timing though…

  8. Hey dumbass SECfan. One reason many sites are more popular is because posters can start their own threads. If you trolls could do that here we’d never have any peace. Thus is a unique site and we like it that way. If you don’t, then go away. RTR!

  9. I just love the obvious domination SECfan is at the wrong, business end of. He hates this site so much he lives here.

I love it! Thank you SECfan; you’ve made my day again.
