For those not attending the first game here is the pay per view information.

INFORMATION ON PAY-PER-VIEW TELECAST OF ALABAMA VS. SAN JOSE STATE (via UA Media Relations)
The University of Alabama and Crimson Tide Sports Marketing will televise Alabama’s football home opener against San Jose State this Saturday, September 4, live in HD via pay-per-view. Game time is set for 6 p.m. Central Time (7 p.m. Eastern) from Bryant-Denny Stadium. The pay-per-view telecasts will be available on participating cable systems in Alabama, as well as DirecTV and Dish satellite television in Alabama and California, Allowing fans the option to watch a game they otherwise would not be able to see on television.

The games are being televised on a pay-per-view basis because they were not selected for over-the-air broadcast or cable television coverage as part of the SEC Conference package. In that instance, pay-per-view presents the only available option for fans to see the games live. The price for residential purchase of each game is $29.95 if purchased in advance, or $34.95 per game if purchased on Sept. 4.

Following details the participating cable and satellite providers that will offer telecasts to their customers on a specially designated pay-per-view channel:

  1. Will the game be available through ESPN3.com in Alabama? Or will it be blacked out? I live in Greenville, AL. and use a local cable provider(better package and more channels) but they do not offer PPV, yet. Any info will be helpful!! Thanks and RTR!!!

  2. Good question.

I attempted to watch a game on ESPN 360 once when DirecTV’s feed was late starting and it was blacked out in Alabama on ESPN 360.

  3. I called Knology last night and they are charging $39.95 for this game. I order the ppv games last year and I am 99% sure that I paid $29.95 for each game. I think they are raping their users!

  4. I live in Pensacola FL and have Direct TV, does this article mean that Direct will only have this available in Ala/Cal and that we won’t be able to get it in Florida??? Does anyone know???

  5. If you live in Florida you should be able to get the Alabama game as part of the ESPN Gameplan for that day.

  6. I live in Wake Forest, NC (just north of Raleigh) and have Time Warner Cable and internet service.

They currently do not have it listed on their screens (unless unidentified as part of the ESPN package for purchase) and are not offering it on a single game PPV option to my knowledge.

Also it seems that since we have TWC that due to ongoing strife between them and Disney (who owns ABC / ESPN) it is unavailable online through ESPN3 since our internet is also through TWC.

Can anyone help?! I have lots of people coming over Saturday night and want to see the game!!!

  7. Ray, that varies by cable provider. It is expensive from what I was told last year by someone who works in restaurants.

  8. Will Direct TV have the Bama game on ESPN Game Plan or available for PPV in Lousiana? I’m offshore and we have Direct TV with Game Plan.

  9. Trying to watch the TIDE from Galveston. Can anyone tell me how/where to order this game (besides espn3)?

  10. Knology in Montgomery told me when I ordered it “the reason for 39.95 is that they are covering pre-game”??

  11. When I called Direct TV to get the game in Tuscaloosa, they said they are not offering the game on pay per view and the only way to order it is to get ESPN Gameplan. Do you know how to order it in advance on Direct TV without getting ESPN Gameplan?

  12. DirecTV is offering it, but perhaps it wasn’t in the system. I’ll keep looking but it should show up in the Guide soon and online if you prefer to order via the website.

  13. FYI- Just ordered the game through Dish. Price was $34.95 plus $5.00 because I had to go through a Customer Rep. They are not offering the early order charge of $29.95. Charge has been $34.95 since Monday.

  14. I live in Alabama and have Directv and tried to order the game all week but the reps. say they can’t find the game in their system.

  15. Called Knology… The game is $33.99 on channel 259 in the Huntsville/Madison area. The game will NOT be in HD which kinda sucks.

  16. I’ve been a longtime customer of Directv and if you arent allowed to order the games on ppv instead of gameplan ya might-as-well switch to dish network!! I tried to get the Alabama game on d-tv and they said you can’t get it except on gameplan ESPN.

  17. Hi, okay so imma big bama fan && personally think this is simply one big fat bs scam. Directv is only trying to get more money cause they know Alabama gonna tear tha field up once again!! So i’d advise all you guys to switch to Dish network jus like the guy below!! But if you cant do that, im sure your able to watch the game online without spinding all your money. Rock on bama fans:]

    <3 meeee:]

  18. Is there a way to find out if future Bama games are also only going to be broadcast on ESPN-Game Day? Because as a DirecTV customer in California, I can subscribe to Game Day for 4 payments of $30 or so, and if there are going to be three more Bama games on GD then it’s worth it to me. Otherwise, it’s not. But I can’t seem to find the broadcast schedule anywhere. Anyone know? Thanks in advance. RTR!

  19. If you get the gameplan you still will not be able to see the game. That is if you live in alabama or cali. They will have it blacked out so that you have to buy the game. It sucks, but I ran into that last year. Hope this helps.

  20. I live in Amsterdam and Saturday’s game is not showing up on the ESPN3/ESPN360/whatever schedule here either. WTF: the Aubarn game is, but not Alabama???? ESPN3/360 isn’t working period for me at the moment. Anybody else having issues with it too right now?

  21. people might be able to watch it on USstream
that’s the last resort when you really want to watch a sporting event.
they usually have someone showing every single event on.
    at least one person.
    good luck.

  22. I’ve watched NFL Network games on USstream before because my cable service can’t get that channel do to the “other” company in town having exclusivity agreement.
    check it out at usstream,com

  23. we just called DirecTV and they said that it will be on PPV and will NOT require ESPN GamePlan. But it will not be listed until Friday morning.

  24. Use your menu->search function on DirecTV and you will see the game is already listed as PPV option on channel 787, in bama at least

  25. I’m in Austin, TX with Time Warner. Anyone know how I watch the Bama game? I can’t find it online anywhere. Please and thank you. Roll Tide!

  26. Just talked to DirecTV. You cannot order the game until Saturday. You can only order it by calling them (+$5 charge). No telling what they will end up charging. I’m looking at changing to Dish. DirecTV sucks!

  27. Bright House and the U of A did not negotiate the two separate rates. The flat rate is $34.95, regardless of when you book the game with them.

  28. Ordered from Knology and was quoted $39.95. There was no mention of any pregame coverage… she said it would come on at 6:00 CST. Told her the paper quoted $29.95 for advance purchase and she said Huntsville and Montgomery subscribers are being charged $39.95, but the subscribers in other areas are being charged $29.95. Discrimination on what city you live in I guess.

  29. Two different reps at mediacom (I’m in Mobile, AL) have told me the game is blacked out in California and Alabama and that if we order it off our tvs it will not come through. That can’t be true.

  30. I called Knology of Huntsville yesterday (2 Sep) to subscribe to the San Jose State PPV game. I was told the game would cost $39.95. When I said I thought it was $29.95, the representative confirmed that it was $39.95. Am I getting ripped off?

  31. what about us…the tide fans over seas?
any webiste will broadcast the game?
we have espn cbs etc but no PPV 🙁

  32. One person overseas told me that justin.tv often has the Alabama game. Check it on gameday if you can’t find it anywhere else.

  33. Sent an e-mail to Direct TV to see if Tennessee was one of the black-out states for the Alabama vs. San Jose game. Their e-mail response was “YES.”
Only showing in Alabama and California via Pay for View! So we are heading to Alabama to visit relatives!!

  34. I live in Montgomery and have Charter Cable. Can I get the Ala v San Jose on pay per view. Everything I see says Knology is carrying it.

  35. I live in the Shoals area in Northwest Alabama. I had to order the game from Comcast. They charged me $44.95 with no mention of any discount, etc. Also, I had to ask the lady what channel and she hung up on me before giving me the time. Comcast are a bunch of bloodsuckers. COMCAST SUCKS!!!!!!!

  36. After speaking to a rep @ Directv this is the info I received :
with Directv The game is available for $34.95 plus $5.00 to talk to a rep. You can order it with your remote channel 787 and not have to pay the $5.00 fee but you will only be able to watch it on the receiver you ordered it on and the receiver must be connected to a phone line. You can not order it from the web site.
PPV option is only available for customer living in CA and AL. If you live in another state you can get it on ESPN game plan. If you have ESPN game plan and live in CA or AL it will be blacked out PPV is the only option.

  37. Mark,

You CAN order it from the website. I ordered it for my mom this morning since I’ll be at the game and can’t order it for her from the receiver.

  38. my wife called DirecTV today and they said you can only order it with the ESPN game plan at 30.00 per month, we are in Ca. Does anyone know if this is true??

  39. This is one big rip-off!!! I live in Alabama. I should get to watch it for free!!! If other states want to watch, make them pay!!! I for one will not be paying this amount to watch a bunch of turd-burglars run back and forth.

  40. This is the third year we have ordered from Charter. The first two years we got the game 2nd quarter and second half the third year. This year we ordered two days before the game to make sure Charter got it right. Well guess what? after talking with many reps from Charter and them not knowing even when the game was to start to not knowing who to go to for technical problems to guess what NOT EVEN HAVING ACCESS TO THE GAME FOR 3 years IN A ROW!!! CHARTER CABLE needs to re-look at their customer service because for them to drop a game as important as the first game of the season is really bad customer service and to do it 3 years in a row is crazy. I’m really looking into changing to Direct TV. What a good commerical this would be for Direct T.V.
