UPDATE: 10:00 p.m. FOX10 reports Will Muschamp could be named Auburn coach
Montgomery television station WSFA reported Auburn could be close to offering its job to Steve Spurrier. The television station’s website has a story citing a source in the coaching profession.
The report is reminiscent of the rumors Steve Spurrier was being courted by the University of Alabama during its coaching search two years ago. The buzz was deafening during that coaching search, but proved to be pointless. Is this a similar case of frenzy? Or is there more happening?

Spurrier was in fact very close to being the coach at Bama.
But local news sports reporters have a terrible track record of reporting accurately, especially when it comes to coaching searches.
I remember when he said he would have loved to coach at Alabama, but fortunately/unfortunately for us, we rushed to hire Mike Price instead of waiting for the NFL season to end. We all see how that turned out; however, things happen for a reason and I’ll take Saban over any coach in existence today!
Muschamp is NOT going to be the Auburn coach. This is getting to be pretty funny.
I heard that Muschamp spit on Jacobs when he left. I seriously doubt he would want to go back to Auburn. He wasn’t even there long enough to develop any long standing ties. He did leave for a reason.
Are you scared of Muschamp? I dont think he is either but IM not CAPPIN it !
I dont think hes good enough to replace Tubbs!
If hes going to have the gravy train Texas job playing Big 12 crappy teams, why go to the SEC ?
According to Reuters, Muschamp said:
“Are you stupid? I would rather have my testicles set on fire and put out by a kicking mule than go back to that place!!!”
Omni, I am not afraid of Muschamp. But he left Auburn for a reason, and he didn’t care if he burned that bridge either. It is funny that all the Auburn people had their hopes up for him, then POW! they hire a 5-19 coach with a 10 game losing streak going. Man, Alabama needs to give Jay Jacobs a RAISE.
