The Alabama Crimson Tide landed commitments from prospects O.J. Howard and a top linebacker for the 2013 recruiting class, according to reports from recruiting services including Tidesports.com.

According to Tiderinsider ($) O.J. Howard committed to Alabama, “The 6-5, 215-pounder, who is expected to be one of the state’s top prospects in the 2013 class… Howard impressed Tide head coach Nick Saban enough to earn the offer. He wasted no time accepting.”

The other major commitment of the day was from top linebacker prospect Reuben Foster. According to a tweet from Bryan D. Fischer of CBS Sports, Reuben Foster “maybe best LB in Georgia past 5 yrs.” Another tweet seems to confirm the analysis, Gentry Estes reported via twitter that “FYI on Foster: He’s a candidate to be 247Sports’ No. 1 overall prospect for 2013.”

And 247Sports provides a bit more insight on Alabama football’s latest recruit. According to the interview with a Georgia recruiting expert, “When you look at him, you wouldn’t think he’s a Nick Saban linebacker. He’s not 6’3 and 245 pounds. Reuben’s about 6’0.5 and 210 or 215 pounds, but any doubts you have about his size are erased immediately when you see him play or watch the film. The fact that Alabama took him two years early shows that they don’t have any doubts either.”

  1. Dang. Every one of those hits are vicious, and the ball carriers direction changes violently as soon as Foster hits him. We’ll add 15 lbs to him and make him a killer.

  2. What a fukking beast! Hope the ink actually hits the paper for bama with this kid! Have heard he is lacking in the class room ! I hope that isn’t true tho!

  3. Another O.J. is what the world needs brotha. Whatchu talkin bout Willis?

  4. I played against O.J. in high school. Needs to get bigger, stronger, and mentally tougher if he’s gonna play in the SEC.

    1. Thanks for your thoughts. It is good to hear from someone who experienced playing against some of the recruits.

It has been several years since I’ve been on the sidelines to watch some of these recruits play high school football. I know it was valuable to see the games and meet players—I don’t think I was ever very good at talent evaluation, but often you can judge attitude and character by how players behave during the game and deal with adversity. Do they bounce back? That is the sign of someone who can become a winner either on the football field or in an office or kitchen or whatever.

Please stop by and share more thoughts.

  5. He is still in high school. And will be next year too. Plenty of growing and conditioning left before he gets to Bama.

  6. The kid may be light, but he is a “de-cleater” for sure. Almost every play had the ball carrier’s feet in the air, and some of them soles up!

Hit the books kid! Goung to Bama is not for dummies, or the mentally lazy.

  7. Another kid to watch that has not been mentioned, but is very good athelete is Tyler Jackson from Muscle Shoals High School. He will be a Junior this year. He played RB last year in a Triple Option style offense and now has moved to Defense to try and garner more D1 attention. He ran a 4.3 – 40 at the BAMA camp last year as a Sophomore and beat Deion Belue in a local track meet in the 100m. He works out with his Dad at Gold’s gym pretty regular and has put on some (Good) muscle this summer. He has a few issues to overcome, but he comes from a GREAT family with good parents that expect the best from him and he is a great student and did I say 4.3 – 40?!!!?? (VBG)

  8. Hits like Upshaw and has eyes like Rolo. Can’t wait to see this kid in action after the Bama coaches get done with him.

  9. Need to watch for a kid out of Ariton All. His name is Seth Roberts and at 6’4″ 225 he is a beast at DE. Seen him play and he takes up two to three OL blockes each time he lines up on the ball. Class of 2013
