Jennifer Kirby Shares SEC Women’s Golf Player of the Week Honors

TUSCALOOSA – Alabama true freshman Jennifer Kirby was selected as the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Women’s Golfer of the Week on Thursday following her runner-up finish at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.

Kirby, a native of Paris, Ontario, Canada, fired a three-round total of 221 (+5) on the UGA Golf Course layout to help the Crimson Tide finish second in a Liz Murphey Classic field that featured 19 teams ranked in the top 50 nationally.

Kirby’s 54-hole tournament score of 221 was 17 shots better than the individual tournament average of 238 (+22). She also converted 12 birdies in three rounds to rank among the tournament leaders.

Kirby is currently second on the team with a 73.21 scoring average, which is the lowest by any freshman in Alabama history. She boasts six top-20 finishes in seven career tournaments and two top-10 showings with eight rounds of par or better.

Vanderbilt’s Marina Alex shared SEC Player of the Week honors with Kirby after finishing second at the Betsey Rawls Longhorn Invitational.

Kirby and her Crimson Tide teammates return to action on April 9-11 at the Ping/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz. The Tide then plays host to the Southeastern Conference Championship at the NorthRiver Yacht Club on April 16-18.
