A research fellow with the Southern Baptist Convention who once called nationalism “gross” has called for the impeachment, conviction and removal from office of President Donald Trump.
Paul D. Miller is a professor at Georgetown University and a Research Fellow with the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. He’s a perfect example of everything wrong with Big Evangelicalism.
Miller opines of Donald Trump, “More worryingly, he refused to comply with Congress’s power to investigate his conduct, a fundamental breach of the checks and balances that is the bedrock of our Constitutional order.”
That’s not how our system of checks and balances works. Congress can ask, but it lacks the power to compel. If it were serious about wanting evidence, then it would go to court. Ben Shapiro explains:
“There is no obstruction of Congress, because obstruction of Congress is just called the president saying, ‘No, I’m a separate branch.’ This happens all the time. [However], obstruction of justice is when you refuse a court order — it’s a whole third branch of government. Jonathan Turley was pointing this out in his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee last week.”
As Shapiro rightly notes, the impeachment is manufactured. It is a sham.
It is a partisan attack that will undermine our constitutional system.
Why does a professor advance such a lame argument?
So, why does a Southern Baptist Convention Research Fellow support it?
Oh wait, the head of the ERLC is the Never Trump fanatic Russell Moore. You remember him. He’s the guy who badmouthed Trump voters in the pages of the New York Times and the Washington Post.
Are you happy that your Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) promotes this kind of nonsense?
This is what your Southern Baptist tithes and offerings support. Time for a change of leadership in the Southern Baptist Convention.

That they would let a professor from a leading Jesuit institution to be a research fellow for the Southern Baptists tells you all you need to know.
It would not surprise me at all if Russell Moore turned out to be a cryptic Jesuit himself.
