Last night, around 7:30pm, Shane Corn lost his battle with lung cancer.

Better known as “Shane from Centerpoint,” and a regular caller to the Paul Finebaum Show, Shane personified what so many Auburn fans hated about Alabama.

And he wouldn’t have had it any other way.

For years Shane was a daily caller to the show, one of the most successful in sports talkshow history. Paul Finebaum’s show is about the callers, and Shane was a cornerstone to the foundation that made Paul’s show so successful.

In a sense, Shane was a trailblazer, clearing the path for the nutjobs who would later call in and make a name for themselves. Names like:

• Phyllis from Mulga
• B.O.B.
• Jim from Tuscaloosa
• Charles from Reeltown
• I-man
• Tammy

…and the list goes on and on.

Not familiar with the show? Well think back to the glory days of 1980’s professional wrestling, when the Macho Man Randy Savage was facing off against Jake the Snake Roberts, following Andre the Giant’s match with Hacksaw Jim Duggan. The WWF didn’t produce characters as unique as the ones that appear on Paul Finebaum’s show.

And of that bunch, Shane from Centerpoint was Hulk Hogan.

Shane was a sports blogger before blogging existed. He was persistant in his passion for Crimson Tide football as well as his belief that anything orange was evil. So persistant was he that he proved his point last summer, when a rival Auburn caller made an ass of himself on the open airwaves, relishing in Shane’s recent grim diagnosis. The caller’s subsequent scorn, ridicule and eventual ban from the show could not have been a more perfect illustration of Shane’s point. And the caller in question is now a bigger joke than he ever painted Shane out to be.

Shane had a dream of being a sports journalist, and had several opportunities to write columns for various small market news outlets around the state. His “Shane Sez” article appeared on the Finebaum website for a time, then took its place in other periodicals.

Most notably, Shane’s articles once appeared on this site. He wouldn’t miss an opportunity to plug capstonereport.com while talking to Paul (with millions listening) on a given afternoon. Say what you may about the man, but his influence was so great that to this day, years after his last article appeared here, readers still associate this site with him, often mistaking my work for his.

Shane wasn’t afraid to take anybody on. When Paul opened the phone lines for callers to talk to his biggest guests, it was like dropping chum into shark infested waters. Eventually you knew Shane’s call was coming, and mercy wasn’t coming with him. I swear on the air he once made Tim Brando cry.

My only encounters with Shane came when we appeared on a live webcast with this site’s owner leading up to the 2009 BCS National Championship Game, and also at the 2010 SEC Media Days.

But when listening to Paul’s show, Shane’s calls led you to give the volume a little boost. Whatever he had to say, it was going to be worth hearing.

As with any zealot, it was easy to be critical of Shane. I have to admit not agreeing with everything he said myself.

But either Shane bought in to what we all think he thought he was, or he really was what he thought he was. The guy didn’t care what you or I thought, but went about his business with a rare blend of sarcastic humility that somehow left him standing once the dust settled.

Ironically, at this moment he probably knows the truth about Cam Newton, and Chet Williams’ non-profit pay-for-play schemes, and Roy Kramer’s union with Phillip Fulmer to sink Alabama…and any of a number of other conspiracies Shane was so good at orating. And while I don’t believe this is spiritually possible, if there is a way, you can bet any info ascertained will find its way to the right destination for maximum impact. And you can also bank on any LSU lockeroom secrets on January 9th somehow finding their way into Alabama coach Nick Saban’s hands.

More probable, if you could see Shane today, you’d just find a guy in the midst of the peace he so needed after battling cancer. And even more than “the truth on Cam”, Shane now realizes what we will all realize one day: college football is just a game, a blip on the radar of eternity.

But in the here and now, he is gone. Our prayers are with his family, and our hearts are a little heavier today knowing that “Shane From Centerpoint” will never grace our airwaves again.

  1. I’m sorry to hear this. I’ve been out of touch taking comps. Never really thought this day would come. He was a nice guy who had a faith that was real. He always had a good point about God’s plan for us.

  2. I’m sorry to hear about Shane. We had a few email arguments, but I always had the sense that he had a good heart. He and his family will be in my prayers.

  3. I use to look forward to reading his columns here and listening to him on PF. New it was bad yesterday when I-Man called. Hate to hear that. He will be missed.
    Rolltide Shane!!!

  4. Sad to hear this,I heard him call in on the show but didn’t know much else about him and had heard on the radio about his battle with cancer, there were some callers on the show yesterday sending positive thoughts and prayers out for Shane. God bless his family and loved ones. He is in a better place now giving em hell. ROLL TIDE!

  5. Hate to hear it. There’s always something so final about the passing of someone you’ve been associated wth. Something that transcends sinply death. As if the path forward will be a little more lonely, a little more unknpwn. At least on this website he was almost larger than life when I first came on here. He certainly was the Bane OF The Barners. I never knew the man, but I’ve been accused on here on a few occasions of being him. I must have really pissed somebody off. Condolences to his family. Rest in peace Shane in that big BDS in the sky. RTR!

  6. This is for you Shane:
Coach Tubberville passed away and went to Heaven. When he got to the Pearly Gates, God was waiting there for him. He said “Welcome Coach, follow me I have something to show you”. They walked a ways together and came upon this small frame house that was painted with fading Orange and Blue. It had a peeling Auburn decal on one of the front windows and a faded Auburn pennant on a stick stuck in the front lawn. God said to Coach Tubbervile, “This is yours Coach. There are very few people in Heaven who get their own houses”. Coach Tubbs said. “Thank you so much God”. Then they walked around behind the house, and there not far away was a huge 3 story mansion with 50 rooms. The walls were Red Gold trimmed with White Gold. There was a 20 foot tall script A inlaid with Mother of Pearl. The porch and sidewalks were built of Diamonds with script A’s inlaid with Rubys. Each window had a decal with the Elephant comng through the A. The front lawn had a 50 foot flagpole (cont)

  7. (cont) made out of Platinum with a huge Bama flag flyng. Tubbs looked at God and said. “God I don’t mean to be ungrateful, but why is Coach Saban’s house so much nicer than mine, he only beat me one time?” God looked at Tubbs, chuckled and said. “That’s not Coach Saban’s house. That’s Mine”. – RTR!

  8. This reply is for Booby from Homewood:

I find it fitting that the last Bama game that Shane from Centerpoint got to watch was an utter beatdown of your Auburn Tigers. Nick Saban made you his woman and made you like it. Now THAT is the irony of all ironies, you complete tool.

  9. Sad news. Praying for Shane’s wife and family this morning. I’m sure he is right there standing next to The Bear this morning talking about their favorite subject, Alabama football. RTR Shane!

  10. I am so sorry for for the loss of Shane. His family is in my prayers. Although extreme in zealousness for Alabama football and his opinion of all other football teams, coaches, etc., Shane was never afraid to voice his beliefs and to stand for something that strongly says so much about the person. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace Shane. Sit with the Bear and talk football. RTR

  11. As an Auburn fan, I couldn’t stand listening to Shane on the radio, but life and death is more important than football even if sometimes act like it isn’t. Rest in peace, Shane. I’m sorry to hear about your passing and I pray for your family to have comfort and peace as they miss you.

  12. May God give his family peace in their hearts and cover them with His Grace. I know Shane is peaceful and happy! I loved to hear him because he was a true Bama fanatic just like me! Roll Tide Roll and I hope we win #14 for you!

  13. Being from Maryland, today is the first day Ive ever heard of Shane but reading this article brought a tear to my eye. He sounds like the epitome of the word “fan” and I’m sure his legend will live on for many years to come. May his soul rest in peace, Roll Tide

  14. Rest in Peace Shane. My the God of Mercy Bless you and your Family. There will never be a Sportswriter like you Shane, I’ll always remember the numerous replies you e-mailed me in answer to my ‘dumb’ questions. You are the only one who took the time to answer them. I will surely miss you buddie, take care, and say hello to the ‘Bear’ for me……. RTR

  15. As an Auburn grad, Shane could really push our buttons and make even the most outrageous conspiracy theories seem plausible, if not completely true. He could really bring it with passion and I have great respect for his love of Bama.
    CC

  16. After years of listening to Shane, I feel like I knew him. His passion was simply amazing. Will be praying for Shane’s family.

  17. It’s sad whenever someone dies. Sadder still is that his greatest mark on this world was made in negative ways: character assassination, lies, innuendo, and saying anything at all about other human beings all in a misguided attempt to help a freakin’ football team. Shane should be an example to us all… of how NOT to behave. It’s frankly depressing to think of how much time and energy he wasted sliming others. I would suggest that I-Man, Harvey Updyke, and all the other idiots out there take stock of their lives and ask if this is how they really want to spend their precious time on this earth.

NOTE FROM THE MODERATOR: I am deleting most of the classless remarks from sad individuals like this one who can’t see beyond themselves in a time when most people, even opposing fans, are choosing to pay their respects. But I’ve chosen to leave some classless comments, like this one, in view to serve as a reminder to us all of what garbage looks like. -ITK

    1. your precious time was wasted on this crude article…you could have kept this to yourself today..

    2. You, sir, are one to talk. How did YOU just spend your time? P***ing on someone’s grave? How highly “moral” of you.

    3. DT, Once again you have shown that Kristi Malzahn is not the Aubbo who needs to learn when its appropriate to shut up.

  18. Shane we will miss you and your calls and articles. My prayers go out to the family. As for bobby from homewood, I find it fitting that the last Bama game Shane ever saw was a beatdown of the barn in their own house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roll Tide Shane and RIP

  19. Heavy, heavy heart today… 4:15ish every afternoon on the PFRN will forever be remembered as “Shane from Centerpoint’s” slot.
While not sponsored by Craneworks, or the Subway “Fresh Take” hotline etc…most true fans of the show, whether clad in Orange and Blue, or Crimson and White, recognize that Shane brought it everyday with a passion and energy that brought out either the best or the worst in all who were listening.
He was the epitome of a great caller, a true fan, and a good human being.
Even in the midst of the overwhelming sadness I feel today, I take great comfort in knowing that Shane was a man of trememdous faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and therefore I know that he is kicking up gold dust on the streets of heaven today, probably drawing a crowd around him by regaling them with tales of how good his beloved Crimson Tide really is this year.
I pray that Shane’s wife and family find some solace during this painful time in knowing that many of us are praying for them daily, and that they might somehow manage a smile in knowing just how much their Shane meant to so many of us.
Rest in peace Shane, and as always, Roll Tide!!

  20. Rest in Peace Shane. the Bear : If you want to walk the heavenly streets of gold, you gotta know the password, “Roll, Tide, Roll!”

  21. This is for Shane! I know some people will say that Lung Cancer won? But I prefer to say that, the good Knight gave excalibur back to the Lady of the Lake and is now in that Avalon – Heaven standing tall in Crimson and white next to Coach Paul Bear Bryant.

I dedicate this song to Shane:

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it ok
There’s always some reason to feel not good enough
And it’s hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction oh beautiful release
    Memories seep from my veins
They may be empty and weightless and maybe
    I’ll find some peace tonight

In the arms of an Angel fly away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
You’re in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn
There’s vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don’t make no difference, escaping one last time
    It’s easier to believe
In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees

In the arms of an Angel far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

You’re in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here.

For Shane from Centerpoint: Who leaves behind a wonderful family and many -many friends on the Paul Finebaum show. Some people may say that lung cancer won? I prefer to say that the good Knight handed the lady of the Lake Excalibur and is off to that heavenly football field to stand tall with Coach Bryant!
Sarah Mclachlan – In The Arms Of An Angel Lyrics

Renda and Tim Carr, “Ren” from Trussville! Paul Finebaum show.

  22. I knew & worked with Shane & he will be missed Shane wasn’t afraid to speak his mind & give you his opinion. If you agreed great if you didn’t oh well!!! That’s what made him who he was. I will be praying for his wife & Children. Roll Tide Roll, Shane !!! I know Shane is probably talking with Bear right now & I bet he’s smiling from ear to ear. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. RIP&RTR

    1. And Shanes persona on the Finebaum show is just that, a On air actor to make the show interesting… Just like Tammy and Legend Iman etc…..

People crucify a person for being a Comedian?

Shane, I hope you have them rolling in the aisles in heaven. RTR

    2. What WAS his opinion, exactly? That Alabama football was, is and always will be the greatest? That they will beat any team, anywhere, any time, ignoring any and all realities? That isn’t opinion. It’s unthinking monomania.

It’s OK to be a fan. It’s even OK, if a bit immature, to be blindly loyal. It’s something else, however, for an adult imagine, even demand, that everyone should share his point of view, that anyone who points out the most obvious flaws in his team is a conspirator, a hater, an Auburn fan, a biased journalist, someone to be named and shamed, etc. etc. It’s also not OK to bore the ears off a very large radio audience with the exact same thing day after day.

Shane as a columnist/blogger? Jack Nicholson in ‘The Shining’ would produce more variety. “Alabama faces a tough opponent but they will still win.” “That was a tough loss but we will win next week” and so on.

Nobody deserves to suffer through cancer and nobody deserves to die at a relatively young age.

However, the tragic circumstances of his passing shouldn’t mask the fact that he was a bad actor most of the time.

      1. He was a better actor than Actress Tammy. Those long standing callers are a staple on F-Bomb, me I call in when I want to, not everyday. I don’t claim to be a F-Bomb Actor/Actress caller.

But for people to trash Shane now? When he was no worse than Tammy and the other regulars? Is just sad.

        RIP Shane

  23. DT I guess your not much better than you say Shane was. You should have some respect for his family at a time like this. I guess it’s pretty convenient to trash someone when they are not able to defend themselves. You are exactly what you just described Shane as, only worse. If you don’t have anything nice to say about someone , you shouldn’t say anything at all. RTR !!! I guess you just got to much Dumbass in you.

  24. ITK you are doing the right thing. Shane was more than just a radio personality. He was also a father a husband & more importantly a human being. We were all created in gods image , so to him we all have value & equality.

  25. Shane was a family friend, or should I say family and a big part of my childhood. He was always nice to me as a young boy and always went out of his way to make me feel a part of everything with the big kids. Big heart! Genuine person! Fellow Alabama and Kiss fan. my thoughts and prayers with humans his family.

  26. RIP Shane.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
     And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air….

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even[8] eagle flew —
And, while with silent lifting mind I have trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
     – Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

      1. And please do a life long ban on DT. If for no other reason than for the sake of Shane’s children.

  27. It is sad that people will let feelings about a football rivalry come out at a time like this. When you really get down to it, like I-man said, when you down to it, football is just a game and in the long run it does not matter one bit. Death of a loved one for a family is about as real as it gets. We should all be respectful of that fact no matter what side we fall on in the friendly rivalry.

Some of the people commenting here today should take a page out of I-man’s book and put the rivalry aside when the time is appropriate.

  28. I havent felt like this since the day Waylon Jennings died.

Never knew him, but Shane was truly a self-made media icon.

I have listed to Finebaum off-and-on for a decade — a very special part of the program has been Shane’ s unique relationship to Paul.

Two things made Shane very special.
    1. Despite some of his cornball conspiracy theories, Shane carried deep within his heart that child-like love of Alabama football that runs deep within the soul of every Tide fan across the globe.
    2. More than any caller, Shane had a special ability to unearth what Finebaum really thought about an issue, no matter how hard Paul tried to conceal it. Paul is a great interviewer, but the greatest interviewer of Paul was Shane — That special relationship contributed immensely to the program.

And without Shane, somehow a great program will never quite be the same.

    1. I’ll tell you…you can learn English for a start…you misinterpreted every thing I wrote to DT…I wasnt refering to the article about Shane your highness, I was writing about what DT had said….if you cant read then stay off things like this, it makes you look like the Red-Neck you are….

      1. I’ll tell you…you can learn English for a start…you misinterpreted every thing I wrote to DT…I wasnt refering to the article about Shane your highness, I was writing about what DT had said….if you cant read then stay off things like this, it makes you look like the Red-Neck you are….
        Reply

First of all Aqua the way this board displays posts it looked like YOU were replying to the article, My apology for thinking you replied to the article. Okay so good you replied to DT. I couldn’t see DT’s post OKAY?

AND as for CALLING ME A REDNECK? It takes one to know one…. Witc***** with a capital BBBBB

  29. Shane was a good guy who handled his illness with the same optimism and joy with which he followed his beloved Crimson Tide.

  30. Death shouldn’t be a sad time , even though I know it is for certain people. This shouldn’t even be about Shane’s actions , good or bad. This is a day to celebrate Shane & all the fun times & good memories of him, and most importantly we should celebrate his homecoming with our Lord. Shane isn’t sick anymore , he’s got a brand new body. It’s easy to remember when someone does something wrong but let’s not forget all the things they do well. We all make mistakes but thank goodness we serve a god of forgiveness ,one that looks past our faults. We should strive to do the same.

  31. I agree that it was justified to ban those who made nasty comments. There’s a time for rivalry and trash talk, and a time to be respectful of a man and his family.

  32. God bless Shane, hated some of your calls, however I hate to hear of a good man dying. Sad day for Alabama people everywhere.

  33. I mostly disagreed with Shane’s comments, but he had the courage to speak from his heart and stand by his comments.

My sincere condolances to his family and friends!

  34. My, how sensitive some of you are. I read DT’s “horrible” comment, and he said nothing to merit the kind of whining some of you are doing. Whether you liked Shane and his schtick or not, it is simply an undeniable fact that he went on PF’s show every day and slimed people he didn’t know with unsubstantiated accusations of cheating, underhandedness, and illegality. If someone you knew did that to their coworkers, you would likely despise that person. The fact that Shane’s vitriol happened on a talk show against people who happen to play for or cheer for another team doesn’t make it right. For some of you to cry foul over people pointing out this basic fact is pathetic.

    1. So now in his family’s hours of grief you step up and decide to “set the record straight”. Funny…. how you just did everything you accused Shane of doing. You are a credit to the Auburn nation.

    2. Actually Jack, what Shane did is exactly what you are doing here. He expressed his opinions in an open forum, opinions you did not agree with, but they were his, and he had every right to say them.

What is pathetic is that because you disagree with them, unlike many of your Auburn brethren who have shown class in paying their respects here, you have instead elected to take the occasion of his death to make a point, soothing the sores he left on you as you listened through the years.

THAT, friend, is pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourself, and you owe his family and everyone here an apology for being so classless.

      1. ITK — Shane did not just express opinions. He continually made specific accusations and insinuations against the character and integrity of people who happened to be associated with teams other than Bama. That kind of behavior is always bad — putting it on the radio does not cleanse it. Shane was not just some guy down the street; he made himself into a public figure, and we don’t whitewash the actions of public figures. I didn’t insult Shane or called him names. If you can’t handle a description of what he did, maybe that’s because deep down, you know it was shameful.

    3. @Jack:

And what about Tammy – Aubie five by five on the hate speech on F-Bomb? You people seem to totally over look her venom and comedy while you can always rage on Shane and Kdub and others.

What about Iman?????? He is just a venom filled as Tammy and Shane ever were and Charles from Reel town?

So you are preaching to the choir. It is a call in sports show, people love the soap opera the politics of SEC football, and now that the world has joined us; the topics are becoming more diverse.

Shane was like a character from Mayberry. So is Tammy and the rest. It’s their strange comedy that keeps people listening to F-Bomb.

      1. Renda — ANYONE who goes around making unsubstantiated accusations of cheating and unethical behavior against others is in the same boat. Tammy, I-Man, whoever.

        1. @Jack, all I was pointing out is that Shane from Centerpoint was not the only mix stirrer.

He, Tammy and Iman the rest of the regular comedic and the pontificating line up are all the same.

It’s not just Shane, it is also Tammy and her five by five yelling loudly and screaming into the phone, and IMan, just to name a few.

I listen to them all, hey it’s satire comedy on Finebaum’s show everyone enjoys listening to them do battle on the phone. Hey, it works for that show.

That is all I was pointing out… I personally have no beef with any of the ‘Mayberry’ callers, I think they do a great job of keeping the cauldron stirring.

          😉

          1. I understand what you’re saying, and I have no problem with delusional fans and homers. I just hate seeing people’s character and integrity publicly assaulted without facts. That goes double when those being accused of stuff are 19-year-old college kids. How would any of us like to hear our sons accused of being cheaters or criminals on the radio without factual basis? When fandom crosses the line into that territory, I have a problem with it, even if it is for “entertainment purposes.” We would all be better off if we ruled such behavior out-of-bounds.

Also, let me clarify one thing I said earlier: I-Man isn’t as bad, he’s actually worse. He isn’t as smart as Shane was, he has no personality, and he’s a really hate-filled little cuss. Shane did have a good sense of humor.

  35. I will miss Shane and his Crimson colored glasses on my daily commute home. May God rest your soul Bama friend.

  36. Dear Shane,

I never knew you in person. I heard your calls from time to time. I agreed with some calls others I didn’t. BUT you let it all out and let it fall where it may. There are leaders , followers and those who yell “GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY”, I am orange and blue thru thru , but for today Roll Tide Shane, ROLL DAMN TIDE !!!!!!! RIP —// JJJ

  37. I have enjoyed listening to Shane. He made some interesting points. And as such, he was a big part of the show and deserves recognition. I am astonished at the lack of compassion some of the people on here lack. Until you have watched a family member or friend fight and lose their battle with cancer, you will never realize how hard this is and what pain and suffering that person undergoes. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I pray this never happens to you or yours. May he rest in peace and prayers for his family going up.

  38. RIP Shane!

    ITK or Capstone:

Is there anyway you can delete as well as ban some of these hypocritical and trashy comments from the boobs on here?

    1. I’ve deleted most, but left a few that aren’t as scathing, believe it or not, in honor of Shane. Shane was all about talking smack, and wouldn’t want people muzzled. He wouldn’t back down from anyone. But the sad part is, he can’t speak for himself now, so yes, anything that is deliberate and cruel, in honor of his family, I am removing.

      1. Yes he would, and he would also get a ‘kick’ out of how the forum sets up posts, when a post is deleted or hidden, people read comments from others and it looks like ‘They’ are replying to the Main Article.

Which in turn, if the person was telling say DT off? One would not know this because it did not look like a Reply to DT it looked like a reply to the Article.

“It” happens. I know I ask you how to block a person; the way the forum displayed to me, it appeared the person was having a go at the Article…. Suffice it to say, they saw my post asking you how ‘I’ could block their comments and fired off some nasty negative stereo types at me. Well I apologized for the miscommunication, but I did address their nasty comments.

I was bullied very badly in School and I just had to walk away and take it everyday, because if we retaliated to those who hit us, threw food on us and sprayed board cleaner on us, we’d get suspended, and I wanted to remain on the honor roll.. So I took the bullying back then. I do not have to take bullying today, without giving reply to their rude comments on my person. All I ask the Moderator was how can I block a person? I did not ask for a person to be banned… And I get called a redneck? Well, I am not going to be bullied any longer, I will reply and address it. And I apologized for thinking that ‘Their’ reply was to the Article, see, DT’s posts had been taken off forum before I logged, so I could not see DT’s posts and the person I ask you if I could block did not add @DT in their reply. So, I apologized for my miss step but I won’t take their bullying without a comeback.

  39. I said I would never post on this site again about a year ago during the Cam Newton fiasco. I am an Auburn alumnus and have great pride in my school, much as most Alabama fans. After hearing of Shane’s passing today it really touched me. I listen to Finebaum daily and enjoyed Shane’s calls and banter with PF. He will be missed and I pray for his family; especially his wife and children. God bless.

  40. As a UA Alum and a Communications major I always thought Shane was an embarrassment to anything associated with journalism. He will be missed greatly. Thanks for the memories. RIP Shane!!!!!!

  41. Sad to see this. Shane was BAMA to the Bone. God Bless him, his family, and friends… God Speed Shane…

  42. Sometimes – you have to just stop hating. My take on this – I will admit back in the day – I did not like him. He grew on me though – to become a friend. He was the product of Paul’s wicked wit. Paul has a very refined and deadly sense of humor. Shane was the “Trojan Horse” that he sent into Birmingham Media to show that a working man – from the Ice House – could be as important and influential as any media member. Guess what ? As Paul kept egging this thing along – Shane – became as topical and yeah – noteworthy than any blow hard in the local media. The day that Shane showed up in jeans with a press pass at Bryant Denny – all those blow hards that Paul hated – they just shitted in their pants. Paul just laughed and we – that followed Shane – just laughed too at how the Ice House Man crashed the “Club”. I’m going to miss the voice – but the echo remains.

  43. Goodbye Shane. I really enjoyed reading and hearing what you had to say.
All the way from Australia. You will be missed.

  44. The highlight of my entertainment day is listening to the Finebaum Show as I drive from store to store and then home. Shane’s participation in the show was always fun and enjoyable. You do start to feel connected to folks you never met before when you hear them so often and that is what I have experienced as I know many others have as well. Shane is my favorite caller ever – period.
I do wander if I missed an opportunity to talk with Shane while shopping in Food Giant in Center Point a few weeks back. There was a guy shopping with sort of arm crutches who looked at me a joked about the meat cutter who was waving a knife back in the meat cutting area. We both saw him and sort of looked around at each other at the time. Whether that was him or not I do not know but as I drove home after leaving the store I though to myself – I wander if that might have been Shane? As I drove on I got the feeling it might have been Shane and started feeling a bit of regret for not asking.
The point is life is short for all of us so live your life the best way you can and slow down a bit and talk to others when you have the chance. You never know when that chance will be gone. God Bless Shane And His Family.

  45. I will pray for Shane’s family that is suffer his death. I also pray for Shane’s soul.

I’m not sad that a hating radio persona like his is now off of the air. I hope that Finebaum and all of his other purposely biased callers that fabricate reasons for hate …soon are not able to be on the airwaves.

  46. I will pray for Shane’s soul. I also pray for his family suffering his death.

I am not sad that Shane;s radio persona is gone. I hope that Finebaum and all of the personalities on his show that fabricate hate based on bias are soon unable to be on the airwaves.

  47. I was surprised at how sad I felt listening to the montage of calls yesterday. As the story pointed out, we are all but a blip in time. Life is too short. So, for Shane, a worthy adversary, from a 2 time Auburn Tiger grad, Roll Tide!

  48. Capstone and ITK:

Please delete Hoopie from all further posts. Hate mongerers preaching against hate is hypocritical and sad. Please delete this boob

  49. I am a devoted Auburn fan, but I must say Finebaum has certainly been missing something since Shane had to stop participating. He was an entertaining character and a big part of the reason that the show is entertaining.

I would encourage those trashing Shane to have perspective. We come on here and on Finebaum to entertain ourselves arguing about something so meaningless as a game so we can really be there for each other when important things like real life and death have to be faced.

God bless Shane and his family. The Alabama family has suffered a loss we all feel.

War Eagle and a Roll Tide for Shane!
