Seven Alabama players were recognized for their outstanding play by the coaching staff following the Crimson Tide’s 52-7 win Saturday night at Ole Miss as announced by head coach Nick Saban. Quarterback AJ McCarron, tailback Trent Richardson and offensive guard Chance Warmack were named players of the week on offense while safety Mark Barron and linebacker Nico Johnson represented the defense. On special teams, Dre Kirkpatrick and Vinnie Sunseri were selected.

The offense totaled 615 yards in the victory with a big part of that coming from McCarron’s 224 passing yards and Richardson’s 183 yards on the ground. McCarron completed 19-of-24 passes with a 10-yard touchdown pass and has not thrown an interception in his last 151 attempts. Richardson ran for career-highs in yardage and touchdowns (four) and also recorded his longest run – a TD of 76 yards. He also caught two passes for 30 yards and leads the nation with six straight 100-yard rushing games. Warmack received the top grade on the offensive line and was key in blocking for a ground game that totaled 389 yards. He had no missed assignments, no penalties, no pressures and no sacks, while being credited with five pancake blocks.

The defense gave up a touchdown on the first Ole Miss drive of 72 yards and didn’t allow another score, surrendering just 69 yards for the remainder of the game. Johnson recorded seven tackles (five solo) with one sack and two tackles for loss. Barron finished the night with three tackles and had two tackles for loss. Alabama had five sacks and 14 tackles for loss in the victory and now leads the nation in rushing defense, total defense and scoring defense. UA also leads the SEC in sacks, tackles for loss and pass efficiency defense.

Sunseri was second on the team in tackles with six (five solo) and three of those came on special teams. He had a tackle inside the 20 on kickoff coverage and also was credited for his great play on the punt and punt return teams. Kirkpatrick serves an important role as the gunner on the punt team, and also as a corner on the outside on the punt return team. He forced a fair catch on punt coverage.

  1. This is fast turning into the best defense in history. We’ve already played better offenses than LSU. If we play the same way against them it will be a victory for the ages cause there’s no way we can’t score as much as Oregon or WVU. Hell, all we would need is as much as Miss St. I’m starting to get that rare feeling that I had against Clemson and Georgia in ’08, Florida in ’09 and Florida this year when I predicted all of those games within 3 points of the actual scores. Remember, I told ya’ll 35-10 over Florida (38-10) when nobody in the country was giving double digits. I’ve already said 31-6. I’ll have to wait a little longer to see if that is only Crimson glasses or prophecy. RTR!

      1. glad we didn’t get w gholston mich st – thug dirty trash for now we will see what d’antonio is made of going forward

  2. ’65 team didn’t play 14 games in a parity induced era against point-a-minute teams either. Nor did they play against half a dozen ranked teams nor 10 bowl teams. In ’65 Bama was about the only SEC team who was ranked. Not cutting the ’65 team short, but even they were not the brutal team that this one is. I’ll guarantee you that even LSWho’s offense is having nightmares about going against this defense. Who in hell wouldn’t. Nobody wants to get hurt. RTR!

  3. I have been checking the stock market and the price of chickens is going up because of an impending shortage. Apparently millions of Barnturd and Corndog fans are sacrificing chickens at an alarming rate in hopes that they can get help for LSWho to beat Bama. Don’t think it is going to work though ’cause Thor and Zeus are on our side. They are playing under the names Richardson and Upshaw respectively. Bwaa haww haww! I checked the Jackson Clarion Ledger to verify something that a poster on al.com said, and it was basically true although embellished somewhat. An article in that paper said that in and interview with an Ole Miss coach and several NFL scouts, that it was said by a scout and agreed too by all that all 11 starters on Alabama’s defense will be playing on Sundays. And that doesn’t include the package players who come in or the underclassmen like DePriest who will also be playing on Sundays That is just too freaking extravagant to comprehend. Totally unprecedented. As this poster said, but I was unable to confirm; the scouts also said that this is the best defense ever seen in college football. Now they may or may not have said that. However simply by stating that all 11 starters will be playing on Sunday is the same thing as saying it is the best defense ever seen in college football since no college has ever had more than 6 defensive players get drafted. I would love to see them line up against the Packers offense just to see. RTR!
