Got plans after A-Day? Why not cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide in a battle against the Auburn Tigers. The men’s and women’s tennis teams will battle in Tuscaloosa Saturday.
“The season-ending regular season match against Auburn always has a lot at stake and this year is no different,” said men’s head coach Billy Pate. “Both teams seem to bring their best and the intensity and energy level with be great. This is a great rivalry, and we have a lot of respect for their program. The last several years each match has gone down to the wire, and I’m sure this will be a battle as well.”
According to UA Media Relations, “The Tide has dominated the Tigers over the years, owning a 54-29-1 lead in a series that began in 1949. Auburn has not defeated Alabama since collecting a 5-2 win during the 2004 season. The Tigers enter the match with a lot of momentum, defeating both Florida and South Carolina last weekend.”
It is a big weekend for the women’s team too.
“This is an exciting weekend for the Tide as we celebrate Senior Day honoring Shelley Godwin,” said women’s head coach Jenny Mainz. “Shelley has been an unparalleled ambassador for The University of Alabama. She has proven to be a key contributor in her senior campaign helping the Tide climb to No. 16 in the nation.”
According to UA, “The Tide leads the all-time series with Auburn by the slimmest of margins, holding a 25-24 advantage. However, the Tigers have won the last two meetings.”
The UA women’s tennis team won the March Intercollegiate Tennis Association Sportsmanship Award.
Both men’s and women’s action begin at 5 p.m. The men play at the Yarbrough Tennis Center and the women battle at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.

Free admission? 😀
The women’s tennis is free admission. Not sure about the men’s match.
The womens singles and doubles were great matches. It was nip and tuck all the way. Unlike softball in which Bama slaughtered Arkansas. I had a full day, getting to BDS at 11 am and then after A-Day switching back and forth between women’s tennis and softball. By the way I highly recommend the pizza at Newk’s! RTR!
