HISTORY: AP media poll tabs LSU, Alabama and Arkansas as top 3 in college football

The AP poll of the media released Sunday was historic for the SEC. It marked the first time the Southeastern Conference (SEC) held the top 3 poll spots as LSU, Alabama and Arkansas were atop the poll, and only the second time in the history a conference has accomplished this.

The undefeated LSU team was first. Alabama at 10-1 was second. Arkansas at 10-1 was third. The Daily Bama Blog has the entire poll here.

Arkansas faces LSU this week with an SEC West title, SEC title game berth and national championship berth on the line.

This poll was historic, as AP writer Ralph Russo said via twitter: “Repeating: Only other time 1 conference had top 3 in 75-year history of AP poll was Big 8 (Neb,OU,Colo) final rankings of 1971.” (Source)

The AP poll is not part of the BCS formula. The coaches poll release by USA Today is, and it had the same top three. You can read about the USA poll here.
