Tide #2 in latest AP poll

AP: Flip-flop: Gators regain No. 1 spot in Associated Press Top 25, after ‘Bama spends week on top

Flip-flop. Florida regained the top spot Sunday in The Associated Press poll from Alabama, which was ranked No. 1 for a week ahead of the Gators.

The Crimson Tide needed a blocked field goal on the last play to beat Tennessee 12-10 on Saturday, while Florida pulled away from Mississippi State in the fourth quarter for a 29-19 victory. The Gators received 30 first-place votes to Alabama’s 23.

No. 3 Texas got seven first-place votes after its 41-7 victory at Missouri.

The last time two teams flip-flopped in the top two spots of the AP Top 25 from one week to the next was 1992, when Miami and Washington did it.

Like Texas, No. 4 Southern California, No. 5 Cincinnati, No. 6 Boise State and No. 7 Iowa held their places in the latest media rankings.

TCU jumped two spots to No. 8 after a 38-7 victory at Mountain West Conference rival BYU. LSU stayed at No. 9 and Oregon moved up two spots to No. 10. (read the entire AP report embedded in this post.)

The polls are certainly fickle! As if Florida looked any better against a pathetic MSU than we did against a very tough UT! We were in complete control until the final 3.5 minutes, and then we were struck like the movie by the same name with – `A Series Of Unfortunate Events`! Actually we should be given credit for miraculously fighting through an obvious attempt by fate to put one in our arses! RTR!

I personally don’t want to be number 1 right now — this is just an extra target on our back we don’t need — plus the psychology that comes along with it that pressures the players — if we were offensively sound — the number 1 ranking wouldn’t bother me but there are too many questions marks right now — as long as we are number 2 in the rankings — that leads to Pasadena in the future.

I think that it is important that the nation not allow our enemies to use this Game for propaganda. They will try and portray us as weak and ready to implode.
Our problems are fixable. It starts with what is inside Mac’s Head. A week off helps too.
Just ask Lane Kiffen. They gave their best (rested shot – Thank you Fucking Roy Kramer) and could not do it !
Imagine us rested up and focused.
Hell on Earth – RTR !

I’m glad they have a bye week. What the past three weeks have shown us is that the SEC is still all about defense. You might see some high-flying, west coast looking stuff in the opening games, but when the bullet hits the bone and the conference games start, it’s all about the D.

After five games, any DC worth his salt has enough tape to shut your offense down. And there’s some very expensive DC’s in the SEC. They BETTER be good.

And that’s when it’s gut check time. Some people get banged up and everybody gets tired. Some wins aren’t pretty, but pretty don’t count for much. Winning’s what it’s all about. And in the SEC, that still means defense.

    RTR!!!

I agree with all said so far. And next DC up? Jon Chavis, who we’ve rocked in recent years while at UT.

And you can HAVE #1…I don’t want it until about.Jan. 10th.
