The Alabama Crimson Tide football team takes on the Florida International Panthers this week. Could that mean a letdown after facing a Top Ten opponent last week?
From the AP: “In no uncertain terms, you’re a typical fan,” Saban told a reporter Monday, his voice rising as he delivered a 3-minute answer. “That’s fine. But I respect the people that we’re playing. I respect our opponents. I want our players to respect our opponents. This guy No. 4 (FIU receiver T.Y. Hilton) is a better offensive player than anybody that we played against last week. You understand that? Whatever your perception is and what they ought to be, I don’t think it’s that. I don’t want our players to think that either.
“Fans can think that as much as you want. You create that perception, which just creates more problems for me because the players read the papers, too.”
Save that speech, coach. You might need a similar one again next week. The Crimson Tide (1-0) managed to overcome the hype for a Top 10 opening matchup — and some distractions during the week — with a 34-24 victory Saturday night over the Hokies. Why does Saban allow self appointed “media” persons to even attend his new conference… unless the reporter writes for as Mag or paper they should not be allowed in. Too many so called writers who have a web blog are far too ignorant to be allow even to attend much less allowed to ask a question. Most have 5th grade writing skills
I agree with you Don. There are far too many idiots that are trying to pretend that they are the story, instead of covering a story.
The issue here is the typical bullexcrement that is lobbed up by sports reporters. In this instance, a TV reporter from Birmingham decided before he attended Saban’s presser that he would ask about a potential letdown following a big win. It’s the same ole leading quesion that lame ass media members keep on asking.
Here’s the point. The story is the Alabama Football team and Nick Saban. The story is not what any reporter wants the story to be. When are you reporters going to learn this? Nick Saban will not address leading quesions. Nick Saban makes the story, he does not assent to your version of the story.
I really think this is why Bill Belichick is so dismissive of the media and rarely gives a great deal of detail. The media merely want a coach that will agree with what THEY think. Belichick won’t do this. Neither will Saban. The difference between the two is that Saban decides to chew someone’s ass out. Belichick just shrugs his shoulders and proffers a dry, one line response.
The media needs to learn how to actually ask questions to get Saban’s opinion and stop asking him to agree with them. That’s the issue here, and it is why the media hates Nick Saban. He knows they are lazy and single-minded. Aside from Cecil Hurt, there is not one analytical mind that covers The University of Alabama Football Team on a daily basis. The rest of the idiots make up their questions before getting to the press conference and look to ask Saban to agree with their preconceived ideas and notions about the way the team is playing or what to expect in the next game.
Maybe the Media need to take some notes, check their ego, and decide to analyze the issue rather than attempt to shape the issue. Otherwise, you’re just a lame Jim Rome immitation. Sorry, to say “lame” and “Jim Rome” is redundant.
As far as the Media goes – you’re getting what you pay for. All the Talent has been laid off ( makes too much money ) and this chaff is what is left .
