Stewart Mandel said it best via twitter, “SEC Media Days hits a new low — a writer asked Tim Tebow whether he’s a virgin. Unreal.”

The SEC has itself to blame for allowing its premiere event to sink to that level. Maybe some of those 900 or so credentialed “media” members at the event should be vetted?

On secound thought, that wouldn’t do any good. Last year Auburn’s recruiting websites were running around the Wynfrey asking Alabama about its “arrest problems.” That was before Auburn’s recruiting websites (YAHOO/RIVALS) began deleting video because it could serve to prove Auburn’s recruiting violations. In the new media world, everyone is a joke.

WJOX’s Roundtable program illustrated just how juvenile things have become. For two days the childish hosts giggled and chattered about asking Tim Tebow the question—was the great Tebow a virgin!?!?

You have to give Clay Travis credit. On a day when the focus was supposed to be on football, coaches and MVP-caliber players, Travis inserted himself into the day’s conversation. While that might be good for his ego and profit, it isn’t good for the press. Does anyone remember the day when members of the press would not inject themselves into the story? Staying out of the spotlight is passe.

Ethics have gone. Everything and everyone is now a joke.

  1. Clay, LT and the other goof from the roundtable are absolutely useless. That show is basically a distant cousin of the Howard Stern show. If you want to hear what three losers sound like, propping each other up to try and sound important (or remotely entertaining), listen in. They’re radio’s version of that guy at the party that talks real loud within ear shot of the hot chick, trying to sound funny, important, interesting enough for her to pay him attention. Or notice him. Or glance his direction. Or acknowledge he even exists. But to no avail. She just joins the throngs of those before her that just walks away, unaware he’s even on the planet.

    But for two days leading up to the event, these three goons cackled and giggled about what he was going to do over a hot mic. To turn around and suggest it was done with a journalistic cause in mind? Please. There is no excuse for WJOX not to terminate the culprit, if not the entire show. They just added to the list of things that gives Birmingham a black eye.

    Why WJOX wastes time and money on those fools is unbeknownst to me. But Clay’s defiance when answering on the Finebaum show for his sophomoric prank just illustrated further what a wretched juvenile he is. You can listen for yourself on the archive of today’s show and make your own determination.

    Hear me WJOX. I will never…ever…listen to that program again. Am I alone?

  6. The problem with Ian is that he is stuck in a market that he will never like. He really does not like the locals. As far as his partner – how in the hell can somebody be that cool ? I think it is called being full of shit back in the Hood.
    I think that there is something at work here that all of us modern – cosmopolitan folks in the South deny – but is something ingrained in their Soul. It is called Good Manners. It offends most of us – discreetly – that somebody would ask a stranger about their sex life. It would offend to ask about how much money they make – hell – you get the picture. It’s just bad manners and it offends the Southern Soul.
