Nick Saban’s first spring was like the coronation of a pope, Paul Finebaum wrote in the Mobile Press-Register. Gene Chizik’s first spring? Not so much.

Remember what that coronation was like? In case you forgot, YouTube provided this helpful video:

In contrast Gene Chizik has been low key on the Plains. However, Youtube did have one video of Auburn installing its brand new high speed offense.

Wait. Maybe that was Auburn installing Tony Franklin’s offense last season. Will this year’s be any different?

  1. My gut feeling is that with the Barners athletes and inexperience, it will be about halfway between Franklin’s and the Arkansas St. spread. Cappy, you know that anytime you write about Lame Kitten, Phat Phil, Tubby the Fingers or Cheez Whiz, you’re going to stir up the Barners and Viles. But then controversy is what keeps a sports forum going. Keep it up!

  2. Well, I would say Finebaum is giving Chizik some ‘buzz’ by writing about it. Auburn people like to think that they have the same spotlight as Bama, but they don’t show the amount of support that Bama fans do. The difference between the two schools football programs are similar to the Yankees and the Mets. You know which team is compared to the Yankees, and which one is more like the Mets.

  3. Im glad there isnt any buzz. The only buzz a first year coach usually gets , is a negative buzz. Say what you will about Chizik. But he (so far) has operated with class. Now its a question of can he win ?

  4. You are right Ballplay. I like Chizik. He already has shown he can have more class than Tubs did. I will probably root for Auburn (as much as I hate to say it) to do well this year, except against Bama of course. He has hired some good coaches, and I think Auburn should be better this year. But the past two recruiting classes are going to have some help from the next few if Chizik is to be successful. But I will still give all you Auburn people hell if they look really bad and have a bad year.
