Four-star running back Eddie Lacy of Louisiana signed with Alabama Wednesday. Lacy is 5’11” and 210 lbs with a 4.4 second time in the 40. Lacy is ranked a four-star by Rivals and rated an 81 by ESPN.

According to ESPN, “Lacy may not be overly flashy, but he is a productive downhill running back prospect with the physical tools and upside to continue racking up yards at the next level…Overall, Lacy should continue to physically develop into a productive, 215-pound, downhill back in college with the strength to wear down a defense and the shiftiness to remain durable between the tackles. Great upside at the position.”

Lacy adds some depth at the running back position, which was a strength for the 2008 Alabama Crimson Tide, but has looked less certain with Glen Coffee’s decision to enter the NFL draft. Roy Upchurch’s injury that required surgery adds additional uncertainty about Alabama’s running back depth chart. Adding Lacy changes that equation. Also on tap for later this afternoon is an announcement from another Alabama target, five-star running back Trent Richardson.

Rivals.com suggests Lacy might face academic difficulties; Lacy has a 17 on the ACT.

In all honesty, Coffee showed that without a solid offensive line, he was mediocre at best.

I think with the arrival of Fluker, to fill Andre’s void, and several other highly touted offensive linemen, we’ll be fine, especially at the RB position.
