Alabama Recruiting Update: Viane Talamaivao is ‘very physical, dominating’ lineman
It should not have come as a surprise when California native Viane Talamaivao committed to Alabama in late May. According to Matt Logan, his coach at Centennial High School in Corona, Talamaivao always wanted to move away for college and experience something different. At 6’3” and 310 pounds, Talamaivao is a dominating offensive linemen who has played all three positions but thrives at guard. He will bring a toughness to Tuscaloosa, and that should help him fit in 2,000 miles from home.
“He is very physical, a dominating run blocking offensive linemen,” said Logan. “He is very aggressive. He loves to take the defense, drive them five yards or more, and then slam them. That’s just his style of play. It’s what he likes to do.”
Talamaivao’s development has been a matter of grasping the sport, focusing on details, and growing into his frame.
“He was raw and green as an underclassmen,” said Logan. “He has learned the angles, and what we are trying to accomplish. He’s developed more and more each year. His body has changed. He’s not just beating people up anymore.”
Logan thinks that Talamaivao would have had opportunities to play college football whether he dedicated himself or not, but he is headed to Alabama because of his focus on improving himself in a wide variety of ways.
“His work ethic has really helped him develop,” said Logan. “He has changed his body and developed as a player. He’s really responded and become a leader. He has stepped up and helped others on the team. He tries to keep guys positive. In his first two years he led by example, now he is more vocal.”
With Centennial running a primarily shotgun, spread, no huddle attack, there will be an adjustment for Talamaivao when he begins practices at Alabama. However, his focus should help him learn quickly.
Asked what other interests Talamaivao has, Logan said, “he’s pretty much just a football guy.”
Kid looks like a BEAST to me..
