Freshman running back Derrick Henry to miss A-Day

  • by

Runningback Derrick Henry suffered a fractured fibula in Saturday’s scrimmage that required surgery this morning. The early enrollee had been having an impressive spring, but the injury will sideline him from the rest of spring practice, including Saturday’s A-Day game.

“Derrick Henry suffered a fractured fibula in Saturday’s scrimmage and had successful surgery this morning with Dr. Lyle Cain,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said today. “With the support of our medical staff and the hard work and dedication Derrick has shown since he arrived, we are confident that he will make a full recovery for the start of camp this fall.”

Henry, at 6’3″, 238 pounds, is thought to be back at 100% for fall camp. The injury leaves Alabama with just two healthy scholarship running backs for Saturday’s A-Day game (T.J. Yeldon and Kenyon Drake), as Dee Hart and Jalston Fowler have remained in black non-contact jerseys throughout the spring.

Henry will be joined this fall by fellow incoming freshmen running backs Tyren Jones, Alvin Kamara and Altee Tenpenny.

Early reports had the injury as being the tibia, the larger of the two lower leg bones which supports most of the weight. That it is actually the fibula is better news.

  1. I can’t pretend this doesn’t stink. I have heard so much about Henry, I was looking forward to seeing just how big he is on the field, and for a new player to get on the field in front of 100,000 friends.

I suppose I’ll just have to settle for Ingram and/or Richardson out there on the sidelines again, eh? A Day. ROLL TIDE.
