College Football: Alabama and Nick Saban are dominant in 2012

Here is a quick summary of the discussion about Alabama and Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban:
Total College Sports College Football Insider Teddy Greenstein said Alabama is one of the biggest surprises of the 2012 college football season. (About two minutes into this 3:54 video, you can see the discussion of this year’s Alabama Crimson Tide.)

“We knew how good Alabama was last year, but when you get eight guys drafted, five in the top 35, and you are able to reload like this, and then against Michigan and Arkansas you have a combined score of 93-14—That is shockingly good,” Greenstein said.

TCS analyst Sean Salisbury asked if Greenstein was surprised at Alabama football coach Nick Saban is restocking the program in such a way that “every year, we are not leaving them out of the top three.”

“(Alabama) is a recruiting and development machine,” Greenstein said. “Anybody thinks it is easy, all you have to do is look at SC (Southern California).”

Salisbury raises the question about coaching ability between Alabama’s Nick Saban and Southern Cal’s Lane Kiffin. Salisbury wonders if the two would meet in the BCS title game, if Saban would out-coach Kiffin. Salisbury is in the camp that Saban would win because of Saban’s overall approach to college football.

Greenstein brings up the BCS national championship game between Alabama and LSU. Greenstein picked LSU, and said his thinking involved giving Les Miles respect for what Miles has accomplished at LSU. But, “then Nick Saban taught him a lesson,” Greenstein said.

Salisbury’s words of advice for Nick Saban. “Never, ever, ever never leave Alabama because you get ten wins yawning, you are such a good football coach,” Salisbury said. “And I think, maybe other than Bill Belichick, the best coach in the world.”

What do you think? Is Nick Saban at the same level as Patriot’s coach Bill Belichick?

  1. (Not being a grammar queen or anything, but I think you meant to say Alabama and Nick Saban are dominant in 2012.)

Good article! I think Coach Saban and Coach Belichick are cut from the same cloth. I am glad CNS is ours! RTR!

    1. You are right. I started writing one headline, and decided on another then forgot to proof it.

I miss my old newspaper days and having a copy editor just for catching those stupid mistakes.

  2. I think Saban is currently the best in the college game, comparable to Belichick in the NFL game.

However, I still say the best all time is Coach Paul William “Bear” Bryant.

Until Saban wins 6 National Championships, the Bear will always be the greatest.

  3. I knew many guys that played under Coach Bryant and given the age then and now, they would fit right in with Coach Saban. Keep it up Coach Saban. RTR

  4. It is hard to compare the different eras, but Coach Saban is definitely comparable to Coach Bryant. He is creating his own coaching tree much like Bryant did. He is dominating the sport like Bryant did in his prime. His methods are influencing other teams to make changes. Overall, Saban is probably the most successful and influential college coach since Bryant. I know I am thankful that he is at Bama. To have two of the greatest coaches in the game like this is awesome, and only adds more to Bamas unrivaled tradition.

    1. I thought Gene said players graduate, but tradition never graduates….Now lets go roll a tree…that is treedishun.
