Nick Saban, Alabama continue plans to annex Atlanta

Since Nick Saban arrived to coach football at Alabama, the football coach has made a commitment to playing a big out-of-conference game each season. Many of these games have come or will come in Atlanta. And it looks like the 2014 opponent for Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game could be West Virginia.

According to a report in the Daily Mail (via Mr.SEC), “WVU deputy director of athletics Mike Parsons confirmed the game ‘is in the works’ and that some details need to be finalized before any announcement can be made. It would be played in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.WVU has its schedules set through for the next several years, including 2014, and will have to do some juggling to accommodate the reigning national champion. The Mountaineers play the same Big 12 Conference schedule that season that they will this season – five home and road games, led by Oklahoma and TCU at home and Texas and Oklahoma State on the road.”

Another big game in the big city for the Crimson Tide.

Nick Saban is more committed to taking Atlanta than General Sherman. Of course, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution already blamed Nick Saban’s oversigning for the subprime crash, global warming, traffic on 285 and the cancellation of Matlock. However, there can be little doubt that Alabama’s invasion will be blamed not on the fecklessness of Mark Richt, but rather on Saban’s oversigning.

Too bad nothing the AJC can do will keep Alabama out of Atlanta. The AJC has to hope LSU can do its job and keep Alabama out of the SEC Championship Game this year and in coming years, or Alabama will have even more opportunities to steal the spotlight from Georgia’s football programs.

  1. The state of Georgia has become CNS’s personal playground. He routinely takes the best recruits, punishes the likes of Va Tech/Clemson / soon to be WVA. Plays in the SEC title game and also vacations @ the lake house there. Yes indeed Georgia is very much a part of “The process” Richt and the AJC should accept their role and embrace it with dignity. Besides its not like they can do anything about it.
