Alabama women’s basketball coach Wendell Hudson was SEC Media Day 2011 to preview the season and talk about his Alabama team.
One interesting story Hudson told during the last part of this interview (see video player above to watch it) was about Alabama football coach Nick Saban.
“Coach Saban when I took this job told me if there was anything he could help me with, he would be glad to,” Hudson said. “And he has. It is a very interesting story. Two years ago before Alabama played LSU the Friday before (the game), I called his secretary to see if he would take time out and talk to a couple of recruits that we had come in. He took time, actually I thought he took too much time on a Friday afternoon before the LSU game… That is the type person he is. He has helped everybody’s program that way.”

On This Year’s team and expectations…
“First off, it’s going to be a very interesting team. We signed three junior college All-Americans, and as a matter of fact, two of them were 32-1 last year on a championship team, the other one that we signed, won the national championship in junior college. The winning experience that they are going to bring to the team is going to be really important. Replacing Tierney Jenkins is going to be a big task for us, but I think that collectively with the players we signed and the freshman that are coming back that are going to be sophomores are going to be better, and so I think we are going to have the chance to be more talented, and I think we have the chance to be better than people think we can be, because I think I don’t think a lot of people know about our junior college transfers, and I think they played three years of college basketball, but not only have they been playing it, but they have been used to winning. I’m really excited about that, and the sophomores that are coming back are going to be better than they were last year.”
On Junior Meghan Perkins…
“A lot of people are going to say, well what position is she going to play? Well, she’s going to play three or four positions. She can be a point guard, she will play point guard at times, and she can be a three player. If we need her to, maybe even go down and guard a four. She’s about 5’11”, so she will be really versatile for us this year. She’s a sly player that is not going to do anything fancy, but at the end of the day, she’s going to have 15 or 16 points, eight, nine or ten rebounds, and she will have guarded some of the tougher people. She’s a winner and she knows how to play.”
