MISSISSIPPI SERIES: With the win, Alabama leads the Mississippi series 45-9-2 (49-8-2 before NCAA rulings) with eight straight wins and 25 of the last 27 games dating back to the 1977 season. Alabama has won its last three trips to Oxford Nick Saban is 8-1 in his career against the Rebels, including a 4-0 mark at Alabama. Mississippi head coach Houston Nutt is 5-8 in his career against Alabama, including a 5-5 record as head coach at Arkansas from 1998-2007.
SABAN VS. MISSISSIPPI: Alabama head coach Nick Saban owns a 8-1 record (9-1 before the vacated win in 2007) in his career against Mississippi. He is 4-0 at Alabama and also posted a 4-1 record against Mississippi while at LSU from 2000-04. His lone loss to the Rebels came on Oct. 27, 2001, as Mississippi posted a 35-24 win in Baton Rouge.
WINNING BIG: Alabama has won its last eight games by 16 or more points dating back to last season’s Capital One Bowl victory over Michigan State. That eight-game streak is tied for the longest such mark in the modern era of Crimson Tide football (since 1950). During the current streak, the Tide has beaten the No. 7 Spartans by 42 (49-7), Kent State by 41 (48-7), No. 23 Penn State by 16 (27-11), North Texas by 41 (41-0), No. 14 Arkansas by 24 (28-14), No. 12 Florida by 28 (38-10), Vanderbilt by 34 (34-0) and Mississippi (52-7). The other longest streak in school history was an eight-game stretch that includes the final six games of the 1977 season and the first two games of the 1978 campaign. During the 1977-78 streak of eight games UA defeated Louisville by 49(55-6), Mississippi State by 30 (37-7), LSU by 21 (24-3), Miami by 36 (36-0), Auburn by 27 (48-21), Ohio State by 29 (35-6), Nebraska by 17 (20-3) and Missouri by 18 (38-20). That streak was snapped by a loss to Southern California (14-24). Alabama also had a seven-game streak of wins by 16 or more points during the 1971 season and streaks of six games in 1961 and 1975.

The 2011 Crimson Tide defense leads the nation in scoring defense, surrendering an average of just seven points per game while recording two shutouts (41-0 vs. North Texas and 34-0 over Vanderbilt). The last time Alabama held its opponent to 14 points or less for at least seven straight games was 1992 when the Tide did it nine straight times to open the season. The school record for consecutive games holding an opponent to 14 points or less is 31 from 1960-63. The Crimson Tide did it in the last three games of the 1960 season and all 11 games of the 1961 and 1962 campaigns before the streak ended in the seventh game of the 1963 season when Mississippi State scored 19 in a 20-19 UA win.

ALABAMA UNDER SABAN IN OCTOBER: Alabama has been very successful in the second month of the season under head coach Nick Saban. Now in his fifth season at Alabama, the Crimson Tide sports a 16-1 record in October. Over that span the Crimson Tide has outscored its opponents 462-215 and is 5-1 against ranked opponents. The only October loss under Saban was at No. 19 South Carolina on Oct. 9, 2010. The loss against the Gamecocks broke an 11-game winning streak. Alabama has won its last five games in October since that loss.
TIDE 45-3 UNDER SABAN WHEN LEADING AT THE HALF: Alabama led Mississippi at halftime, 17-7 and once again earned the win. The Crimson Tide is 45-3 when leading at halftime under head coach Nick Saban.
DEFENSE
STOUT DEFENSE: The Alabama defense turned in another strong defensive effort in the win over Mississippi. The Crimson Tide held the Rebels to 141 total yards (28 rushing, 113 passing) on Saturday night. In Saban’s 61-game tenure at Alabama, the Crimson Tide has limited the opposition to less than 300 yards of total offense 36 times, or 59 percent of the time. The Tide has not allowed more than 251 yards (Penn State) in a single game this season and has limited the opponent to less than 200 yards four times (Kent State – 90 yards; North Texas – 169 yards; Vanderbilt – 190 yards; Mississippi – 141 yards).
10 POINTS OR LESS: Alabama held Mississippi to 7 points on Saturday night. Under Saban, the Crimson Tide has held opponents to 10 points or less 29 times, including five times in seven games this season. Last season Alabama held opponents to 10 points or less eight times and limited opponents to that mark seven times in 2009 and 2008. In 2007, the Tide posted two games in which it held opponents to that mark. Since 2007, Alabama has held opponents to 10 points or less 28 times and less than a touchdown 13 times.
GAMES WITH AN INTERCEPTION: Alabama has recorded at least one interception in six of its seven games this season. The only game the Tide did not record a pickoff was against North Texas (Sept. 17). Alabama recorded an interception in 11 of the 13 games in 2010, putting together a run of 17 games with a pick in its last 20 outings. Seven different Tide players have tallied an interception in 2011, with Dee Milliner leading the way with two.
FIRST HALF DEFENSE: Alabama has allowed seven points or less in 11 of its last 12 first halves of play. Over that span the Crimson Tide has surrendered just three points or less on seven occasions, including four shutouts. UA had a streak of nine straight games before allowing 10 points in the first half to Florida.

ALABAMA SCORING OUTPUT: With the 52 points scored at Mississippi on Saturday night it marked the most points scored in a Southeastern Conference game since 1990. The Crimson Tide downed Vanderbilt, 59-28, on Sept. 29, 1990.
151 PASSES WITHOUT AN INT: Alabama sophomore quarterback AJ McCarron has reeled off 151 consecutive passes without throwing an interception. It is the third-longest streak in school history. He has gone six straight games without a pick. Brodie Croyle holds the school record of 190 consecutive passes without an interception with Jay Barker (155) second. McCarron passed Greg McElroy’s mark of 149 straight passes without an interception.
RICHARDSON SETS CAREER HIGHS: Alabama junior running back Trent Richardson had a career night against Mississippi. Richardson set career highs in yardage (183), touchdowns (4) and also had the longest rush of his career (76). Richardson became the first Tide player since Shaun Alexander (LSU, Nov. 9, 1996) to rush for four touchdowns in a game.

But what does last year have to do with anything? Auburn beat you guys last season, so it it a safe bet to think Auburn will win Saturday, also? That is where your logic is flawed. You can’t say that Alabama hasn’t done everything asked of them this season. I mean, come on… they are averaging beating everyone by 32 points this season. No one has scored much beyond the first quarter. Not last season, or 2009, but RIGHT NOW. Talk about the schedule all you want. But 7 games into the season, statistically, and consistently, Bama has a better offense, and a better defense. You want to talk about Oregon, well, Arkansas is ranked about right there even with them. Penn State has a better record than West Virginia also, and has only the loss to Bama.
What makes me think that Bama can win by 3 scores? They have been doing it all season, no matter who the competition is. They beat Arkansas about as soundly as the did anyone else on the schedule so far. Plus, Bama hasn’t been making many mistakes with turnovers and such. LSU has lived off of capitalizing on their opponents mistakes. In my opinion, in each and every game so far this season, Bama has completely dominated, has shown the quality of their depth chart, and is getting better every week. LSU will be a tough game, no doubt. But I don’t think LSU will score more than 2 touchdowns on Bama’s defense. You think I am crazy? I am just going by what I have seen THIS season. Last year, 2009, 2008, none of that factors in this season, as much as you are trying to make it so.
But I tell you what. If LSU wins the game, I will pull for them to win it all. I don’t hate LSU, I actually like LSU when they are not playing Bama. Can you say the same? But you are right and wrong in some of your comments and assumptions used.

But you are wrong if you think last year, or recent history has nothing to do with “anything”! History, especially recent history, has a lot to do with how the professionals set point spreads for games. And although they are not always 100% right they are right or lets say reasonably accurate at predicting point spreads of games correctly a lot more often than they are wrong.

I never said what happened last year with Alabama would happen this year. What I said was that two of Nick Saban’s and Alabama’s best team ever could not beat two of Les Miles’ worst teams at LSU by 3 scores, so it makes no sense, based on that history, that they could beat one of Miles’ and LSU’s best teams ever by 3 scores. That doesn’t have anything to do with last year. And besides Auburn did beat both of us last year, but LSU and Miles had beaten them the three previous years.
And you are right, I can’t say “Alabama hasn’t done everything asked of them this season”. I can’t say that because I have no idea what’s been asked of them. That’s kind of a stupid statement and doesn’t have anything logical to do with the issue being debated. Albama is averaging 39.7 points per game and LSU is averging 38.4 points per game. I do agree with you that when discussing schedules Oregon and Arkansas are about even, however, LSU did beat Oregon at a neutral site and not at home where Alabama beat Arkansas. With regards to your comment that Penn State, has a better record than West Virginia, while technically true, it is a purposely misleading statement in that West Virgina was off last week and has played one less game than Penn State. I will let the fact that before last weekend, when both teams had a 5-1 record, West Virgina was ranked in the top 15 in the polls and Penn State was only ranked in one poll and that was at 25th.

I would say that most of what you are talking about were not mistakes by our opponents but rather superior plays by our defense. I mean Mathieu’s plays against WV and Kentucky were superior plays and not mistakes made by the opponent, as was Claiborne’s interception and return against Tennessee, just to name a few. But you are correct we have capitalized on those superior defensive plays once we got the ball.

And your last statement is both right and wrong.
You are right, of course I am biased, that is part of being a fan, but I am not biased to the point of being stupid or blind, and go around making ignorant arrogant statements or predictions about my team.
You are wrong because I have noticed this Bama team is very good and is for real. See I have never posted anything to the contrary on here (go look at everyone of my post if you don’t believe me). And unlike you, and others, I have not once claimed on here that LSU is definitely going to win the game, much less a stupid prediction like they were going to win by 3 scores. Alabama is a very talented team (they have to be they have the NO. 1 recruiting classes 3 out of the last 4 years, right?), that is very well coached (Again they have to be because they have the best coach in the history of college football, right?) and the professionals have made them an early 6 point favorite to win the game at home (I guess you will claim that is Three safeties and your statement is correct, right Brando?)
The differece is I don’t believe, and the evidence supports me, that LSU doesn’t have a chance or that we will get beat by three scores. I also don’t believe, and again the evidence and facts support me, that Miles is “retarted” or “mentally challanged” as claimed on here. I believe he is capable of beating Saban and a more talented Alabama team again this year, because he has done it before.

The fact is, you are talking about 2 other entirely different teams that absolutely have no bearing on this years team, long winded response or not. The coaches don’t actually play the game, and some of the coaches aren’t even at the programs anymore. I never said Miles was ‘retorted’. That was your word not mine. But to expand my point: Bama leads LSU in every defensive category, defensively and offensively. The home field ‘edge’ as you call it doesn’t really mean much. If you go by the past history, as you are wanting to do, Bama has a better record against Auburn at Jordan-Hare than they do at home. Same for LSU, so does that give LSU the edge there?
But there is NO EVIDENCE whatsoever that says LSU absolutely won’t get beat by three scores. If you believe that, you are crazy. No one knows the outcome. I think what I think, and I have a pretty good reason to feel that way, based on the way Bama is playing. If LSU gives up a lot of yardage to Bama like they have everyone else, Bama tends to finish drives, and has a lot of explosive plays, so Bama could win. I think it is likely that Bama’s defense can clamp down on LSU’s offense. While your defense is pretty good, the offense isn’t all that. I think Bama has a more complete team than LSU at this point.
So, don’t get your feelings hurt. I think both teams are pretty good. Bama is just a little bit better this year.

and that LSU’s “offense isn’t all that”. Well the facts say LSU is ranked 8th in the nation in RedZone scoring at 96.43% while Alabama, which you say tends to finish drives, is only ranked 26th in the nation at 88.24%. Also LSU’s starting quarterback still has a better qb rating than McCarron.
So while you were wrong in saying Bama leads LSU in every category defensive and offensively, you are right in saying “there is NO EVIDENCE whatsoever that says LSU absolutely won’t get beat by three scores” but there is ALSO NO EVIDENCE that says they will get beat by three scores, but there is pleanty of past history and current facts that indicates they more than likely they will not.

Alabama just looks better than LSU, in my opinion. Bama may not win by three scores. I don’t care if they win by 1 point. But I think they will win. If they shut down LSU’s offense, which is entirely possible, they probably will win by three scores. UTs running back averaged nearly 4 yards per carry on LSU. I think Bama has several backs that can beat that production. If that is the case, it will be a long day for LSU. Bama does have a better offense. Better offensive line, and running backs. LSU may have a slight edge at QB, and advantage at receiver. Bama has the better defense. Bama is more physical, and has speed across the board as well as size. LSU can match up in a few areas, but not all. Bama is just overall a more dominating team so far.
And three scores, man, you don’t know what that means? 17-21 points. And I thought you said you were smart. This is the best team Saban has had so far in his career. It is going to be the game of the year in the SEC. But I have seen nothing on the field this year that says LSU is guaranteed to beat Bama, just because you think Miles is just that good. That is your biased opinion. I have the right to have mine also. I have as much of a chance being right as you do. So stop with all your ‘sources’ opinions. And I have never said LSU was going to win the game much less guarnteed a win like you have. I believe Bama will be the favored team to win, mainly because of where it is being played, but I do think think it will be closer than YOU and most people think, and LSU has a team and coach that could possibly upset Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Just for fun I did go look up a couple of other stats for you. Last year Alabama was scoring 34.6 points per game and LSU was scoring 28.1 points per game. Alabama was averaging 435.6 yards per game while LSU was only averaging 332.6 yards per game. Alabama’s defense was only giving up 14.1 points per game while LSU was giving up 17.8 points per game. Last Year’s Final Score LSU-24 Alabama-21. Just saying stats are pretty similar to last year.

Summer 2011, 4 ex Auburn football players appeared on HBO’s “Real Sports” with Bryant Gumbel and admitted they were paid for coming to Auburn and paid while they were there. One saying that he was paid directly by an Auburn Coach. And the NCAA found no wrongdoing. Hmm…
No less than 5 freshman players currently at Auburn posted Facebook pictures with $10,000 IN THEIR MOUTHS (huh?) after committing to Auburn. The high school coach of 1 of those players, Trovon Reed, Louisiana’s State player of the year, reported this to the NCAA and was interviewed by them and, say it with me, the NCAA found no wrongdoing. The other 4 players posted pictures on their Facebook pages with pictures of new Corvettes, new Camaros, guns, new iphones and of course, money. Accompanying these pictures were quotes such as “Got my new Camaro!!” and the NCAA found no wrongdoing.
Cam Newton never attended class in his 1 semester at Auburn. AND THIS WAS CONFIRMED ON CAMERA BY HEAD COACH GENE CHIZIK. Coach Chizik said “he causes too much of a disruption in class because he is a Heisman Trophy Contender.” This was in October of last year, well before Newton became the frontrunner for the Heisman. He was allowed to take his class(es) online. Every State newspaper in Alabama has reported that there was never any record found of Newton being enrolled at Auburn. EVERY OTHER MEMBER OF THE FOOTBALL TEAM – ALL 84 OF THEM – WERE EASILY VERIFIED AS BEING ENROLLED AT AUBURN. And the NCAA found no wrongdoing.
I am willing to bet you everything I own and ever will own, that the NCAA will never reveal the details of this investigation. How could it? The governing body of all NCAA Sports, simply put, is not accountable to the 120 Institutions it governs.

It is over with and done. Auburn either did some mighty fine cheatin’ and got away with it, or there just wasn’t no evidence. Either way, I am past it, and moving on. It was fun to poke a stick at the cult members, if it were the other way around, they would have been the same way. Now that I think about it, they have always been that way towards us, lol! But it is over with, for now.
This is a new season, Bama is looking as strong as they ever have, and Auburn, well they are just barely keeping their head above water. They know the beatdowns are coming this weekend and in the Iron Bowl, even if they won’t openly admit it here. Seriously, if they are paying players this year, they should get their money back. But for me, I am just more excited for a run at the National Championship this season than anything Auburn done last season. They were lucky to win half of their games last season, and hardly dominated anyone. Bama has a team this season that is more impressive than anything Auburn could hope to have had last season. Too bad this team can’t play last years Auburn team.

In one of the other threads I said that Upshaw is Zeus and Richardson is Thor. At that time I did not know the defense was taking individual nicknames and that Hightower actually is Zeus. With that in mind how about naming the defense “Tide Titan’s”? And since they seem to like being named after Titan’s then Thor is the perfect nickname for Richardson who is without a doubt the Hammer. On the other hand I really, really like the nickname Crimson Crunch. What do ya’ll think? RTR!
