Recruiting: Alec Morris picks Alabama

REPORT: Alabama gets commitment from quarterback Alec Morris via twitter reported that Allen, Texas quarterback Alec Morris committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The new Alabama football recruit stands 6’3” and weighs 235 lbs.

Morris is a three-star prospect, according to Rivals. Scout lists Morris as a three-star prospect. According to Scout’s analysis, “Average sized quarterback he has a short stroke when throwing the ball. He is very accurate and can hit all the short and medium range passes inside or outside. Question is on the longer passes does he have the arm strength to complete them.”

Morris first picked Wake Forest for his verbal commitment. Morris made the verbal in late July during a visit to the campus.

But that has changed. Apparently the decisions by heavily recruited quarterback Jameis Winston sparked a strong move by Alabama.

“I think the more experience Alec got, the better he got,” Allen head coach Tom Westerberg told the Plano, Texas newspaper. “If you look at his highlight tape in chronological order you can definitely see the improvement.”

According to the newspaper, the “then-junior threw for 2,533 yards to go with 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions in his first year as Allen’s varsity starter.”

  1. Texas QB Alec Morris committed. He’s a 3* now but he’s only a Jr. and his stats are very good, not to mention that he’s 6′-3″ and over 200 lbs. 61% completions, 6 int’s in 300 passes, 400 running yards, 30 total td’s, and over 2500 yards passing. He’ll be a 4* or better by next February, and because he’s under the radar we can keep looking for that next 1st round draft pick after Phillip Simms. RTR!

    1. Not sure why we’d want a guy that initially committed to Wake Forest, but I’ll trust Coach Saban on this one.

Seems like not a whole lotta people around these parts had heard of a guy named Mark Ingram when he committed to Bama a while back and I do believe he turned out OK.

      We’ll see.

      Welcome, Alec Morris.

  2. Not a lot of gems in this year’s QB crop, and the two we wanted have committed elsewhere…with one likely never seeing the a football field anyway. The kid’s film looks good though; reminds me of a bigger Greg McElroy. And we know HE didn’t accomplish anything…

But lest we forget the QB spot is locked up for the next four years anyway, so this is likely a contest for the back-up/starter in 2015 or 2016.

  3. Agree. Live here in Allen and he is a very good athlete and a great kid. Can’t wait to see him at Bama!

  4. Seems those Texas quarterbacks do pretty well in Alabama – particularly those that are sharp academically. Bama doesn’t need a superstar at QB, they need a game manager who has the smarts to read a defense and make good decisions. This kid may move up quicker than many think.

  5. The film looks really good. He looks like hes got really good pocket awareness and makes good decisions under pressure. Also looks like he can run a little bit if he needs to. Hes got a while to build up arm strength before he ever sees the field. And our last brainy 3 star QB from texas did not do disappoint.

  6. upgrading the server tonight, so just letting everyone know that things might be a little erratic.

  7. He also set bama camp record by throwing over 53 yards FROM HIS KNEES! He is poised and will be great! Oh, he also just turned 17 and will only get stronger…

  8. the best thing about rankings is that they can be very misleading…he might not be the top qb in the class, but as soon as we offered he got a lot more attention and all of the sudden ppl are starting to see that he’s not a bad qb by any means, and is only getting better….roll tide alec…
