Recruiting: Alabama’s early 2011 football recruits

The Alabama football 2011 recruiting class is taking shape and it isn’t even national signing day. The official details from the University follow below:

Crimson Tide Football Welcomes Eight Players for Spring Semester
Alabama announced that eight student-athletes were scheduled to begin classes on Wednesday and will be eligible to participate in spring practice with the Crimson Tide.

The group includes five high school players, including three that graduated early to enroll at Alabama for the spring semester, and three junior college signees. Alabama welcomes three defensive linemen, two linebackers, one wide receiver, one quarterback and one offensive lineman for the start of the spring semester.

The January signees include four-star junior college prospects Quinton Dial (East Mississippi Community College), Aaron Douglas and Jesse Williams (Arizona Western Community College) along with early high school graduates linebacker Trey DePriest (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield), quarterback Phillip Ely (Tampa, Fla./Plant) and Vinnie Sunseri (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Northridge).

DePriest, a five-star prospect and ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect by, is one of the top linebackers in the 2011 recruiting class. DePriest was also the top-ranked linebacker in Ohio by and the Ohio Division-I Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. He played in the Under Armour All-America Game and finished his senior season with 117 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and nine sacks.

Ely, is the sixth-ranked pro-style quarterback in the nation by and No. 5 by Tom Lemming. He was a four-star prospect and played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Ely threw for 2,731 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2010 for Plant High School while completing 64.3 percent of his passes. As a junior in 2010, he led Plant to the Florida 5A State Championship while throwing for 1,860 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Sunseri is the son of Crimson Tide assistant coach Sal Sunseri and one of the top defensive playmakers in the state of Alabama. He was selected as one of the biggest surprises at the Under Armour All-American Game. Sunseri was the 2009 Defensive Player of the Year in North Carolina and the 2010 Class 6A Defensive Player of the Year in Alabama. Sunseri made 107 tackles as a junior at Marvin Ridge High School (Waxhaw, N.C.) and 114 stops for Northridge High School (Tuscaloosa) as a senior.

Alabama’s three junior college signees were among the top in the nation. Williams, 6-4, 330-pound defensive lineman who hails from Brisbane, Australia was the No. 2 player in the 2011 JUCO Top 50. He made 30 tackles in seven games with six tackles for loss (-29 yards) and two sacks (-12 yards).

Douglas, who was a freshman All-American at Tennessee in 2009, spent one season at Western Arizona in 2010, earning NJCAA All-America honors. He was ranked No. 10 in the 2011 JUCO Top 50.

Dial originally signed with the Crimson Tide out of Clay-Chalkville High School in 2008 and has excelled during his time at East Mississippi Community College. He is ranked 15th in the 2011 JUCO Top 50. Dial was a two-year defensive standout at the nose guard position, making 76 total stops in 2010 with 3.5 sacks.

Alabama also welcomes two players to the Capstone, who originally signed with the Crimson Tide in February of 2010, including wide receiver Ronald Carswell (Macon, Ga./Westside) and defensive lineman Wilson Love (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook). Carswell is a fast and versatile wide receiver, who was an AAAA All-State selection in 2009 by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that caught 33 passes for 714 yards as a senior. Love was ranked as the No. 34 defensive tackle by ESPNU in 2010 and is the brother of current Crimson Tide offensive lineman Tyler Love. Wilson recorded 12 sacks and 94 tackles as a senior in high school.
