Q&A with Arie Kouandjio, Dematha H.S. Maryland

Note to readers: Arie is one of the few uncommitted prospects that the staff really thinks highly of. He is one of the top Offensive Tackles in the nation and landing Arie would be huge for the Alabama Crimson Tide 2010 signing class.

Arie Kouandjio’s stats: 6’5”, 325 lbs., Bench 330, Squat 600, 40 time: 4.8”.

1. Who are your top remaining schools that you are considering?
Arie Kouandjio: Alabama, New Mexico, California, and U.S.C. (No Specific Order)

2. What are your thoughts on the schools that you just mentioned?

Alabama: “The Fan support was the #1 thing that I noticed and that amazing how they love their football at Alabama. Coach Saban and the staff will play a big factor. Coach Saban is a great man and all about business. If I decide to play for him, I will leave a better man. I also love the stadium, the academics, and a chance to be part of a championship! Coach Sal is recruiting me and we have an awesome relationship.

“I took my official last weekend had a great time. Chance Warmack was my host and I got to hang out with a lot of the offensive linemen most of the weekend. The players all seemed like brother who really get along well and they were really good to me. They gave me a great impression made me feel like a part of the group. My younger brother Cyrus was with me and I know he had a great time. He’s gotten to know a lot about Alabama just from watching them recruit me and I know Alabama is really looking at him.”

California: Took official visit to Cal on December 7th. “I had a very good time visiting.”

Arie said he really like the players and coaches. He has a great shot at early playing time. One of his good friends is set to play at Cal.

“Although it would be a cool to play with him, it’s not going to play into my decision,” he said.

New Mexico: Arie Kouandjio likes the players and really has gotten close to the staff. Great chance to play early here.

U.S.C.: Taking his Official visit this weekend. He was recruited by Lane at Tennessee. Kiffin was accually at Arie’s school today (Tuesday) visiting with him, which shows how high Lane is on him. Arie likes Lane and the staff at U.S.C. and this visit should help him with his decision on which school he will sigh with! He wants to see what U.S.C. is all about and if he fits in before deciding.

Strengths: Very Athletic for a big man. Log Arms and could play Tackle or guard. What stands out is his speed for a massive player his size. He told me ran a 5.8 40yd, but I think he runs closer to a 5.3 or 5.4. Some guys just have a great game speed and it looks like Arie is a perfect example of that.

Weaknesses: Needs to improve his foot work. Arie is working on pass blocking, becoming stronger, and improve his speed and lateral movements.

Most Impressive: Very aggressive on the field and isn’t intimidated by anyone. Will not stop blocking until the whistle blows. Potential to be a Great pass blocker and a very dominant run blocker.

Overall: With the size and strength to compete for playing time as a true freshman. Has the tools to become a great offensive tackle at the next level and athletic enough to play offensive guard. He definitely has long-term potential beyond college.

Factors into his decision: Early playing time, Academics, and a connection with his staff. Most importantly is where he fits in the best. Also would like to play for his younger brother Jr. Off Lineman Cyrus Kouandjio Hyattsville, Maryland DeMatha 6’7″ 322 5.0. He will be a top prospect in for next year and it is expected every college will be after him.

Note: Arie is fully Qualified. 3.0 G.P.A. 1020 ACT. He would like to major in business.

He is waiting until signing day so check us out for updated info on National Signing Day.

  1. ITS PRETTY COOL – WHEN IN HS THEY WANT EARLY PLAYING TIME ONCE THERE THEY DON’T WANT TO GET IN AS MUCH – KNOWING HOW UNPREPARED THEY ARE AND THEY DON’T WANT TO HURT TEAM AND EMBARRASS THEMSELVES

  2. If it comes down to early playing time, he’s not coming to Alabama. However, I don’t think that is his primary deciding factor. He seems genuinely emotional when he talks about Alabama and I think his little brother would sign up now. Also, his father is an old-school guy who was blown away by Coach Saban. This guy needs some development and discipline. He really sees that himself and he will listen to the people around him who will steer him to Alabama.
