Columnist: Kiffin a liar, a cheat and an idiot

Lane Kiffin continues to say stupid things and columnists respond with condemnation. Ron Aiken of the Columbia Free Times delivers a polemic against the Tennessee Volunteer coach.

Among Aiken’s best shots at the boy blunder: “And we’re not even to spring football yet — give this guy a whole summer, and there’s no telling how much more worthless drivel will flow from his mouth or how many more apologies he’ll be asked to make. All in all, the picture emerging of Kiffin is one of a liar, a cheat and an idiot. The best thing I’ve read about him — and it seems to sum him up perfectly — is that Kiffin was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.”

Kiffin denies negative recruiting
Aiken also takes aim at the negative recruiting practices coming from the Volunteer staff. However, Kiffin denied being a negative recruiter, according to ESPN’s Chris Low. “That’s not the way we’re going to do things here, and it’s something I don’t condone,” Kiffin told Low.

Low also provided some insight into what Volunteer players first thought of the new coach: “The Vols’ first-year coach came across as cocky and downright arrogant, especially for a 33-year-old guy who’d never coached the first SEC game.” Who held that opinion? Tennessee junior receiver Gerald Jones. What does it say when your players think you are a joke? Of course, players are now going to say things like Jones did in the same article about how super fantastic Kiffin is. But that first impression was probably the correct impression of the boy blunder, and it speaks volumes for how his act is playing.

More Kiffen love. Just when I thought that there wasnt any more. There it is.

  2. Hmm. No negative recruiting huh? Wonder what you would consider telling a recruit that if he goes to that other school he won’t be able to get a job would be called? Stupid bastard. Problem is he’s from that arrogant west coast league that thinks they can do anything they want and get away with it, and he looks at the southern schools like we’re a bunch of bush leaguers. He’s fixing to get that arrogance slapped right off his stupid face. The boys a sick puppy. He needs a few months on the Bama campus at Bryce Institute. A round of shock treatments at the state mental hospital should straighten him out! rtr!

Wow. E,G, , you sure did get a lot out of the article didnt you. Why dont you people leave poor Mr. Kiffen alone.

  4. The guy who wrote the article is an idiot. Probably never played a sport in his life. How many recruits does he think he could bring in to a program? He probably got his degree from South Carolina and thats why he writes for some rinky dink paper dishing out opinions. We will see when the Vols blow over the gamecocks this year and their washed up coach.

  5. Nobody really has to say anything about Kiffin. You can just tell Tennessee’s experiment with this guy is going to end badly. Every move he makes is going to be scrutinized, and every bad mistake will be amplified. And believe me, he will have to take his lumps this year, and he has ensured that those lumps could be huge by running his mouth so much before he has even coached a game. What is funny is most of the time a first year coach will get a pass on a bad year. Most Tennessee fans are starting to equate Kiffin running his mouth=great football coach so they will be competing for the SEC east this year.

  6. I still maintain, keeping Kiffin at Tennessee is in the best interests of the entire SEC…It insures that we are all going to have a great year. Non-conference schools should take note, smell blood in the water, and prepair for Lame as well. I can’t wait, being a Gator fan, to watch what unfolds for the not really Orange and white…that may be his strongest gift…making people wonder what he’s going to stick his foot into next…..
I wish him luck, I suspect strongly he’s going to need it.

I agree that Kiffen at Tennessee is beneficial to te rest of the SEC. I just tend to respond to hypocritical remarks. but I get your point. Lane chould get a few wins under his belt before talking that much smack. Spurrier has earned the right. Saban has. Meyer has. I dont think that Chizik has yet. But I hope that one day he will.

  8. Well, Ballplay, I wouldn’t like it much if Saban was acting like that. I don’t think you would like Chizik acting like that either. I sure wouldn’t be supporting it and thinking just because he stirs up the hornets nest that that automatically means he is a fired up coach and he will be highly successful. I think it is more about wishful thinking on the Tennessee fans part.

But I will predict he will be a fun one to watch every time Tennessee looses a game. There is no telling what kind of excuse or smack talk he is going to say. I mean, he has come into the league acting like a bad guy in wresting. You almost expect him to come on the field wearing a mask and a cape. I can’t remember another coach ever being this brash right off the bat. Maybe Terry Bowden, but this Kiffin guy is in his own league of stupid behavior.

Brando….Your right. I wouldnt necesarilly like it. But I would pay attention to a coach that has earned that right. Experience and success usually amount to credibility to ones comment. A first year SEC rookie should be watching and listening . Not talking.
