Massie cancels UGA visit & recruiting predictions

National Signing Day creeps ever closer, and the Alabama Crimson Tide coaching staff led by Nick Saban are hard at work trying to land another stellar recruiting class. Can they do it? Thursday saw some interesting developments.

Tide assistants visited with top running back prospect Trent Richardson on Thursday. As far as anyone knows, Richardson remains a soft verbal commitment to Alabama. But the best news of the day came from offensive line prospect Bobby Massie.

Massie, 6’8” 335 lbs. OT prospect, canceled his final recruiting trip set for this weekend. Massie had planned a visit to Georgia, but TotalUGA.com reported he would not visit Athens.

“This would seem to all but kill Georgia’s already slim chances of landing the big offensive lineman,” TotalUGA.com wrote.

The consensus is that Massie’s decision not to visit Georgia is good news for Alabama. If the consensus is correct, Massie would cement a stellar 2009 offensive line recruiting class for the Crimson Tide. The best offensive lineman in the nation, D.J. Fluker, is firmly committed to Alabama, and the Crimson Tide has signed James Carpenter. Carpenter is a 6’5” 305 lbs. lineman, and has already enrolled at the University.

Recruiting predictions
ESPN’s Chris Low provided a list of predictions for top SEC recruiting prospects. Alabama fans might be interested in his predictions for a few of these players. Low predicts Trent Richardson signs with Alabama, that Bobby Massie signs with the Tide, that Brandom Moore picks Alabama, Tana Patrick also rolls with the Tide, and Dre Kirkpatrick as well.
