Social media is the place where Elite Evangelicals virtue signal their feelings about President Donald Trump. Today, a Southern Baptist pastor and favorite of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) agreed with a Never Trump progressive Evangelical attack on Trump.
You really have to understand the Twitter thread to appreciate the insanity.
Jonathan Merritt tweeted, “The underlying assumption is that Obama and Trump are morally equivalent. But presenting a healthcare bill you dislike isn’t the same as serial lying, coddling white supremacists, bragging about grabbing women’s genitals, & calling immigrants animals and black nations shitholes.”
Then Southern Baptist pastor Dean Inserra replied: “Besides some policy positions of Obama/Pelosi that I would consider immoral, I am with you 100% on the moral equivalence. No argument here. I’ll text you.”

Wow.
Inserra is pastor of City Church in Tallahassee, Florida. He holds an MA from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a D.Min. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Notice how progressive Christians ignore the big thing that makes Obama evil and Trump a lesser evil—Infanticide. Abortion.
Obamacare is one reason to prefer Trump over Obama; however, abortion mandates the Christian apply God’s greater commandment (Not murdering) over lesser ones (like preference for kinder, gentler presidents who don’t sin.)
Pro-Tip: Every election is a choice between lesser evils because all of humanity are sinners.
Another Southern Baptist pastor responded to this nonsense on Twitter. This thread is very good.
Jeff Wright said, “Besides some policies of Obama/Pelosi” – what a saccharine gloss on Obama’s brutal, sub-human record on abortion (and that’s before we ever get to Pelosi).”
He continued, “Obama is a straight up monster – monster – on abortion. That cannot be what-about-ed to any degree with the moral failures of Donald Trump described in that tweet exchange.”

This is the problem when conservative Christians accept dangerous progressive rhetoric about Donald Trump.
Personal sinfulness matters, but it matters a great deal less than sinful public policies—like abortion.
[Personal sinfulness matters, but it matters a great deal less than sinful public policies—like abortion.] AMEN!
And, what REAL moral failures has Trump committed since running for President and inviting an Evangelical Oversight…
If Jesus forgave Paul who murdered Jesus’ Saints, why can’t Trump also be forgiven for past sins? You can’t have it both ways, either Trump is forgiven, or you aren’t. For whosoever sins you fail to forgive yours will also be reinstated…
That’s one of the parables the once saved always saved folks ignore!
Jehovah, is The Lord! and He changes not! As He revealed Himself in the Old Testament, He remains and the shedding of innocent blood remains an abomination. (Proverbs 6:16-19)
You have been warned, continue in your complicity by supporting abortion purveyors, and you will be judged as committing an abomination before Jehovah…
