How will Big Eva respond?
“The power to tax involves the power to destroy.”–Chief Justice John Marshall
The Democratic Party wants to create its own state church. That’s the real meaning behind Beto O’Rourke’s attack on churches’ tax exempt status. O’Rourke wants to deny tax exemptions to any organization that disagrees with his view of LGBTQ issues.
O’Rourke told CNN, “There can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break for anyone … that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us.”

And the net consequence of this would be the creation of a de facto state church. That’s something clear to multiple observers. This tweet by Mark Tooley makes that point clearly:
“Liberal Mainline Protestantism, what’s left of it, would become de facto state religion!”

Of course, O’Rourke wasn’t the only one talking a crackdown on Christians. Spartacus talked tough too. Sen. Cory Booker promised “consequences”—whatever that means—on this same topic.
This is the modern Democratic Party.
While Beto and Sen. Booker might not have a shot at the nomination, they speak for the mainstream of the progressive, antichristian secularists.
This is the future of policy of Democratic Party. It will one day make it into the party’s platform.
How will Big Evangelicalism (Big Eva for short) respond?
Watch the establishment anti-Trump guys start to warm to the GOP and Donald Trump.
While defunding Planned Parenthood and being Pro-Life wasn’t enough, somehow, protecting their dollars will be.
Big Eva will slowly come to realize that elections require nuance. One can’t be too worried about “public witness” to the exclusion of enacting good policies. Suddenly, it won’t be consequentialism that drives Trump support, but wisdom.
Sadly, dollars always have a way of clarifying what’s right.
One thing Christians must keep in mind is the proper division of authority between church and state. There are limits to both kingdoms. If one kingdom views itself as supreme, it is dangerous.
Beto’s desire to punish Christians for being Christian illustrates this. As John Marshall said, “The power to tax involves the power to destroy.”
That’s what is driving this Democratic jihad on the church. They want to destroy it.
They won’t prevail in that mission.
However, unless Christians wake up and vote in 2020, these progressives will make things harder for all of us.
Also, remember: churches should discipline any member who votes for a Democrat.
