ALABAMA FOOTBALL NAMES KEVIN SHERRER DIRECTOR OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
TUSCALOOSA – Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced on Monday the hiring of Kevin Sherrer as Director of Player Development. In this role, Sherrer will focus on the off-the-filed activities of Alabama’s football student-athletes and will serve as an important resource in balancing the demands of academics, athletics, community outreach, and their personal lives. Sherrer will also assist with the strength and conditioning program, as well as the peer intervention group.

“We are pleased and happy to add Kevin Sherrer to our program,” said head coach Nick Saban. “This position is important in terms of developing our players in all areas during their college careers. Our goal is to create an environment that helps student-athletes be more successful in life because of their time at the University of Alabama. We feel certain Kevin will do an outstanding job in his role and will be an asset to our program.”

Sherrer played tight end at Alabama from 1993-95 and earned a letter in 1995. After graduating from UA in 1996, he spent two seasons at Tuscaloosa County High School as an assistant coach, which included a state title in 1997.

In 1998, Sherrer returned to UA as a graduate assistant on defense for a three-year stint. The Crimson Tide won the Music City Bowl in 1998 and won the SEC Championship in 1999, resulting in a trip to the Orange Bowl. Sherrer earned his master’s degree in higher education from the University of Alabama in 2000.

From Alabama, Sherrer spent four years at Spain Park High School (2001-2004) as an assistant coach on defense. He then served for five seasons at Hoover High School – two as a defensive assistant (2005-06) and three as defensive coordinator (2007-09). Hoover won a pair of state championships during Sherrer’s stay (2005 and 2009).

“I’m excited to join the staff at Alabama and couldn’t be happier,” said Sherrer. “I’ve spent a lot of time at the University of Alabama and in Tuscaloosa so this is a very special place to me. The opportunity to work at Alabama and to work for Coach Saban is something I am really looking forward to.”

Sherrer and his wife, Carrie, are the parents of twin nine-year old boys (Kaleb and Kyle).

Whomever wrote this release did a poor job of checking their facts.

  2. Yet another thing that proves my Nick Saban/Gene Chizik thoery. Gene Chizik also has a director of player development.
