Alabama Crimson Tide football player Brandon Deaderick was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon at around 4 p.m., according to various media reports. Deaderick was shot and wounded during an apparent robbery attempted at about 10 p.m. at the Rivermont Apartments. The shooter apparently fled the scene following the shooting and remains on the loose.

About lunchtime Tuesday Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban released a statement on Deaderick.

“We feel very fortunate that Brandon is doing well and that this is not a more serious situation,” Saban said. “We are hopeful that his condition will continue to improve as we expect him to be released from the hospital later in the day today. Our concern at this time is for Brandon’s continued recovery as our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, not about when he will return to football.”

While players, fans, coaches and friends are happy for Deaderick’s recovery, law enforcement is busy trying to solve the case.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, “Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steve Anderson is asking anyone with information to contact the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Crime Stoppers or the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit.”

The Tuscaloosa News story provides one extra bit of news that illustrates the nasty nature of rumor in major college football. According to the report, “The chief did say he wanted to put to rest a rumor that was circulating earlier this morning. The notion that detectives are skeptical of Deaderick’s story is not true, Anderson said.”
