If you live in Rep. Bobby Bright’s district (D-AL-02), you might want to contact him and urge a NO vote on the climate bill set for a vote tomorrow. The Capitol Hill switchboard is (202) 224-3121. If you are unfamiliar with the bill, I’d recommend reading the Wall Street Journal’s piece on the Waxman-Markey bill. The Journal writes in a piece titled, The Cap and Tax Fiction: Democrats off-loading economics to pass climate change bill, that the bill could “cost the economy $161 billion in 2020, which is $1,870 for a family of four. As the bill’s restrictions kick in, that number rises to $6,800 for a family of four by 2035.”
If the climate bill passes, the GDP will take a hit. I’m strongly recommending anyone considering investments in the US reconsider that strategy. China becomes an even more important investment play. It is unlikely China will damage its economy in any climate change initiatives. While the US will damage manufacturing and also likely retail as energy costs reduce consumer discretionary spending. The erosion of GDP would make me very bearish on the global economy once the restrictions begin.
Man, keep politics off of this site. Please. It ruins it for everyone.
jeremy, don’t click. it’s that frickin’ easy, bud.
(got to be a democrat. knows what’s best for “everyone”)
i have children and grandchildren. they (and i) will suffer if this climate claptrap passes.
but in a sick, demented kind of way i hope it does.
prices on traditional energy sources is going to triple, maybe quadruple. and especially for us who’s electricity is generated by coal-fired plants.
obama and democrats claim to be champions of the poor but who’ll be hit by these energy taxes hardest?
the poor. the average janes and joes.
the very people who bought the obama claptrap.
there’s a word for it:
irony.
Or liar.
Fine Jeremy, stick your head in the sand. In the meantime, the world burns.
Once again a MAJOR piece of legislation that makes fundamental changes to our country’s economy and constitutional rights is passed and NOT READ by those voting. I don’t care what your politics are…this is scary.
yeah mos, remember the “transparency” that was promised???
remember the promise to post ALL legislation on a website so all could read it???
remember how they called bush a liar at every opportunity???
shoe, meet the other foot.
He did the right thing. I voted aginst him simply because he was a democrat. I may have to rethink that next time he runs. As a rule I do not vote for democrats because they support crap this this bill.
