This game winning TD proved to be the difference in last nights 20-10 win for the Red Raiders.

This early in the season there is a game within the game that takes place in college football. One starts measuring who you’ve beaten and how those teams have fared following your victory over them in hopes of gaining a quick evaluation of where you are this early in the season.

For instance, Alabama struggled with a salty Virginia Tech offense in game one, only to see that team refrain from yielding a single touchdown the week after. Western Carolina was a lesser opponent, but the evaluation was intact.

LSU’s marquee opener with TCU may have taken a hit last night, as the 24th ranked TCU Horned Frogs fell to unranked Texas Tech in a 20-10 snore fest. Hear that Tiger fans? The vaunted Texas Tech Red Raider defense only allowed 10 points to the team to which you yielded 27. TCU’s lone win on the young season is now over the FCS’s Southeastern Louisiana.

Following its pillow fight with TCU, the Bengal Tigers had a cream puff last week in UAB (a 56-17 win), and faces two more cream puffs (Kent State and Auburn) before the showdown with #9 Georgia on September 28.

So will Saturday’s hurdle in College Station be the lone, real barrier to the Tide getting back to Atlanta and vying for it’s 16th National Championship? It’s still too early to say for sure, but so far this young season, that looks to be so.

  1. Alabama fans certainly want Va. Tech to keep winning so that later in the season that win looks more important. The tide doesn’t have another quality nonconference opponent.
The TAMU game is MUCHO IMORTANTE. The loser will essentially be two games behind in the race for the SEC West. A loss means the loser will need the winner to lose twice in the division. LSU is on the schedule for both teams, and there could be a three-way tie scenario.
    Say Alabama beats TAMU
    Then TAMU beats LSU
    LSU beats Alabama
all are 1-1 against each other. What’s the tiebreaker for that?
Anyway, Alabama just needs to win. I don’t foresee being able to get to the BCS this year without going to Atlanta.
With three BCS rings in four years, and the possibility of a historic three-in-a-row, anything but a perfect season will be disappointing to a lot of fans. And it will be interesting to see how Alabama (or TAMU) will handle a loss. RTR

  2. TCU score 14 points off of a 100 yard kickoff return and an LSU fumble at the 5 yard line. The better gauge is yardage:

LSU allowed 259 yards to TCU.

Texas Tech allowed 401 yards to TCU.

    LSU’s defense isnt a problem.

  3. Ok then peachy, LSU gave up 13 points to TCU and Texas Tech with a new coach only gave up 10. Yards mean nothing except to alumni. Now that I’ve shot your ass down, let me help you back up before shithead L.M.A,O. drags his ass over here. – In all fairness to the Corndog’s, TCU played Texas Tech without their star QB Pachall. They fell apart last year when they lost him and it looks like ditto this year. We should know more about the Corndog’s after the next two games against BCS conference opponents. —- Oh, wait!!! Bwaa Haww Haww! RTR!

  4. Ok, so how about VT-ECU? ECU was undefeated and averaging 44 points a game. VT just beat them 15-10 and passed up kicking a field goal to run the clock out, or it would have been 18-10. I’ll take it So what does that make it? VT 1 loss to Bama, TCU 2 losses. Oops! RTR!

    1. Are you really trying to talk up East Carolina? Their wins are over Old Dominion and Florida Atlantic. And they gave up 38 points to Old Dominion.
