It seems Alabama incoming freshman Dee Liner likes to make waves. Waves like the ones he’s apparently enjoying in Panama City Beach while on vacation this week. But also waves like the ones he’s created by posting this pic to his Instagram account early this morning:

Liner is seen in the photo with two unnamed young men, each holding a wad of cash apparently in a gas station bathroom on their way to PC. He shared the hashtag #StruggleOverWit, and that this is just “Day 1.” In one pic the top bill appears to be a $100, the bottom a $20. Blowing it up it looks like close the $1,000. It’s unknown if the three are holding the same wad of cash, or three separate stacks.

One thing’s for sure. It’s not as much as this:

Former Auburn player Dakota Mosley in a pic that never amounted to anything NCAA-wise

The fact is, pictures like these make a statement, but what kind of statement is the question. The immediate assumption from haters is that they’re flashing the cash given to them by boosters for going to the school that you hate. But the area in-between a photo and the facts is as gray as can be.

Where the disconnect comes is when adults who live and breathe college athletics make assumptions, draw conclusions, and just in general live and die on the actions of 18-year-old kids. For instance, a forty-something year old white man in upper suburbia with a working knowledge of the light-speed impact of information on the internet has no idea what’s on the mind of a young African-American kid just wanting to show the boys back home he’s living it up, Instagram style. That’s an oversimplification, obviously, but in Dee’s mind, his Instagram wouldn’t reach much more than the boys and girls back home.

Little did he know it has most likely reached Nick Saban himself, along with the rest of the internet. Which is why we probably won’t see any pics from “Day 2.” But Alabama fans sure don’t want to log on and see something like this, while opposing fans love it. Too bad for those opposing fans that the NCAA is impotent, handing out feather spankings left and right these days. The sagging, lagging governing organization is desperately in need of the college football version of this:

If the governing body even makes it past the impending talks of disbanding next January it’ll be a miracle.

Football practice starts later this week in Tuscaloosa, and it can’t come soon enough. Off-seasons have been fairly tame as of late, as has this one, even with this little splash. But one thing is for sure: Pictures like this make the statement that some kids need the discipline college athletics and education brings a lot more than the programs and institutions need them, and if Liner doesn’t get that message quickly, he’ll be sitting with Brent Calloway up in the stands on Saturdays.

  1. Keeping trying to spin it uat. The fact that he has spoken about getting money, having money, not worrying about money for him nor his family, wanting money…then have him holding around $1,000 worth of ATM cash (cold hard cash) and stating that the struggles are over wit. That sends a very clear message to the NCAA.

    1. You mean the NCAA that’s about to be out of business as we know it? I’m sure I speak for all Bama fans when I say we’re collectively shaking in our boots.

The photo means nothing. Nothing. But keep searching, dreaming for the crack in our armour. But I’ll give you a hint: this ain’t it.

    2. Funny thing is that student loans just got dispersed when he took those photos. Back in the day, if I were so inclined, I could have cashed my student loan check with two other individuals, found a local burger king bathroom, and taken the exact same photo.

  2. Typical homer dumbass. Actually you don’t even rate a reply. However, I’m bored right now. Obviously you are much more worried about it than Bama fans are. First place there is nothing going on at Bama that even remotely resembles that crap. The greatest dynasty in college football history doesn’t in any shape form or fashion need it. The best beg to come to Bama, even without scholarships and then wait their turns. Life’s a bitch ‘aint it dumbass? Second place not even the treasury department can tell from that photo if the money is even real. I can show you fake money any time of the day and twice on Sunday that I’ll guarantee you can’t tell it’s not real without a test. The picture I get from the photo is three athletes all going to top football programs and showing friends that they are guaranteed to succeed and be rolling in money when they hit the pro’s. If that’s not the case, you can bet Nicky will snatch a knot in Liners ass, and if anything is fishy he will never set foot on campus. So Phuck off Phool. Go back to whatever has been or never was school you root for. Bwaa Haww Haww! RTR!

  3. It’s what he had left over after originally committing to the Barn. It’s that time of year and no doubt Barner Fife is behind it all. Probably photoshopped even. Kirkpatrick’s Charger, Julio and Mark’s $100 fishing trip, T-Town Menswear. Aubie’s are vile, butthurt, jealous souls. There’s another photo floating around from the same Barner that goes by TT Towel of another Charger supposedly belonging to Liner with a broken window. The original pic has already surfaced and been proven photoshopped. Nothing to see here but more evil Barner Fife’s.

    1. If it was money he had left over from Auburn, how much more was he paid to go to Alabama? With Cam, all we heard was if a player was getting money from one school, the only way he would go to another one is he is getting more there. Why does that same principle not apply to Dee Linet or Reuben Foster? John Copleand said RF got a briefcase full of money to go to AU. Using that same logic, Reuben either got a bigger briefcase, or multiple ones full of cash. I am not saying either got any money. Just the hyprocisy that exists. Let the attacks begin in 5,4,3. Wait, that would mean Bama fans would know how to count. Lol!!!!

  4. The statement Liner is making is the same statement Texas savior Johnny Manziel made when he used Instagram to post a near-identical photo of himself and a wad of cash.

The money and the picture mean nothing, but isn’t this what Instagram is for? I have an Instagram account just to keep my name registered for my business, but I don’t use it really at all so I don’t honestly know.

However, I hear about it on the radio, and like no other online app, Instagram is used to show off wealth. Maybe that’s why stuff like this keeps happening?

On Instagram there are people who post pictures of themselves with wads of cash, stacks of expensive bottles of champaigne, bar receipts in the tens of thousands of dollars, yachts, and eating raw panda off the trunk of their gold-coated Ferrari on top of a skyscraper made of other Ferraris. There is an entire category dedicated to pet cats sitting with stacks of money.

I’m not joking about the cats.

    Instagram. Gimme a break.

  5. I smell al.com and Isadore Carl Gould…am I “harrassing” you Gould? LMAO!
