Here is the official recap from UA Media Relations:
The Alabama football team held its first scrimmage of fall practice on Saturday afternoon inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The scrimmage lasted roughly 125 plays and was just over two hours under sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s.

“I thought we had a really good first scrimmage,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. “The goal of the scrimmage was to get a lot of players opportunities so that we could evaluate. There were a lot of good things out there today.”

“The ones on both sides of the ball did a decent job,” Saban said. “The first offense played pretty well but didn’t finish a couple drives. Eddie Lacy did a good job. He had limited reps. We only wanted him to have six or eight carries, and he had eight carries. AJ (McCarron) played pretty well. The first defense played decently.”

Junior quarterback AJ McCarron commanded the offense and completed 19-of-29 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown. He found freshman Amari Cooper on a six-yard scoring strike and another 44-yard completion while Kevin Norwood hauled in the long pass of the day with a 45-yard grab.

Eddie Lacy led the way on the ground with 57 yards on eight carries for a 7.1 yards per carry average. He also caught a scrimmage-best five balls for 25 yards. Jalston Fowler ran seven times for 34 yards and a score while T.J. Yeldon had 24 yards and two touchdowns.

Kevin Norwood led all receivers with 61 yards on two catches. Cooper was next with three grabs for 52 yards. Fowler and Lacy combined for eight catches out of the backfield and senior tight end Michael Williams caught three balls for 31 yards.

“There is certainly lots of room for improvement, but I think the most critical thing is to establish some depth,” Saban said. “We have such a young team. There are a lot of young players in those backup roles and how quickly we can get those guys to develop is going to be real critical.”

On the defensive side of the ball Trey DePriest and Xzavier Dickson both led the way with five tackles with DePriest making one interception. Nick Perry had four tackles and two pass breakups while Vinnie Sunseri had three tackles and a blocked field goal he returned 68 yards for a score.

The Crimson Tide returns to the practice field on Monday third the third two-a-day of the fall.
