Alabama junior running back Trent Richardson became the first Crimson Tide player in school history to earn the prestigious Doak Walker Award. Richardson earned the honor at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show, held at the Atlantic Dance Hall on the Disney’s Boardwalk.

Richardson, a native of Pensacola, Fla., was named a Walter Camp All-American just before learning that he was tabbed the top running back in the country. The junior has also been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a SEC first-team honoree. He also garnered first team AFCA All-American honors.

The powerful back is fifth in the nation in rushing yards per game, averaging 131.92, and has scored 23 touchdowns this season, ranking him fifth in scoring at 11.5 points per game. This season, Richardson set the Alabama record for rushing touchdowns in a season with 20. That number also ties him for second most in a season in SEC history.

Watching the awards show last night,Trent seems like a pretty humble guy off the field.Bama did pretty good on awards, hell between us and LSU we cleaned house. SEC domimance once again.

With the team letting him down by losing to LSU so that he missed the SECCG to showcase himself, it was pretty evident he wasn’t going to win the Heisman. So he’s not considered the best or at least most valuable athlete in the nation – who the hell cares since he IS considered the best and most valuable athlete in the SEC and Geez Louise, I do believe the SEC is better than the rest of the nation! Bwaa haww haww! Also Doak Walker is for the best RB in the nation and that is a hell of an honor considering he beat out Monty Ball and Lemichale James. I know I spelled that wrong. Phuckit.

I wish Trent would of got the Heisman also. First of all — getting the Doak is an honor in itself and the NFL doesn’t forget about things like that (lol) — after watching RG 3 and how he composed himself — this guy was raised the right way, gets good grades and didn’t speak about himself not once while getting the trophy — Baylor fans are class acts — they know their football program has sucked forever and to see some success they’re soaking it all in — so if it couldn’t go to Trent (3rd place? WTF?) — I’m glad it went to RG 3.

Late on this one but I have to say, yes,yes I know that RG 111 and Luck and the others do not have to carry 5-7 guys on their back 5 or 7 yards down the field. The DW is fine but as I have read many of the voters just had it out for the SEC on the Heisman. Could this really be the truth? RTR
