Auburn Football Coach Gene Chizik previewed the Iron Bowl game against Alabama in this audio clip. You can listen to the clip in the above player, and below is a brief summary of the press conference.
Auburn’s football coach said he expects a tough challenge in this game. “the Iron Bowl is one of the greatest rivalries in college football,” Chizik said.
He said his players and staff are looking forward to this game against Alabama.
Chizik was asked about the possible return of Urban Meyer to coaching college football. He said he was focused on the upcoming game and declined to make any further statement.
Chizik was asked about dealing with a “young team” when something negative happens. Chizik said the key is “to try to respond immediately with something positive for your team.”
Chizik was asked about the run defense and the ability to stop running backs in big games like Marcus Lattimore and Mark Ingram. Chizik said stopping Alabama’s Trent Richardson would be a goal of his defense.
“He is a great running back and he has a great offensive line,” Chizik said. “There is no question that the #1 job responsibility for our defense to give ourself a chance to win is to stop their running game.”
The same reporter asked Chizik if the past success stopping Ingram “a couple of years ago” gave his team confidence going into this game. Chizik said his team is “confident” in every game.
