Melanie Collins and Sean Salisbury of Total College Sports examine potential upsets, Heisman candidates, and coaches on the hotseat (Southern Cal’s Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss’ Houston Nutt).
First, Sean Salisbury thinks Arkansas should expect a challenge from Ole Miss. Salisbury believes Houston Nutt will have his team ready to play.
Heisman Trophy predictions include Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson falling out of major contention for the Trophy despite his excellent athletic ability. Salisbury believes too few people across the country appreciate Wilson’s talent. Melanie Collins predicted that Alabama football player Trent Richardson would post strong numbers on national television as Alabama plays Tennessee in the traditional rivalry game.
“I think Trent Richardson is going to run all over Tennessee,” Collins said. “He is going to catapult himself into the frontrunner position.”
As for coaches on the hotseat, of course Houston Nutt at Ole Miss is discussed, but USC’s Lane Kiffin makes the list too. Salisbury who played at USC said the Notre Dame game is critical for Kiffin. “If Kiffin loses the Notre Dame game then his job is not only in danger now, but major danger,” Salisbury said.
Georgia Tech should beat Miami and rebound from last week, according to Salisbury.
Salisbury thinks Penn State’s “record is a fraud.” This year and the Nittany Lions should expect a real challenge from Northwestern.
